Wasn't sure if I should start a new thread or post it in the Universal dumps DW thread. Walt Disney Studios, DreamWorks reach deal Don't think we have anything to worry about re: ROTF.
so is Disney going to make a shitty direct to DVD sequel to all the awesome Dreamworks movies? wait...there is irony in my statement, i can sense it
What a surprise. Sure, Universal gets all the Transformer stuff, but they just lost another animation studio to Disney.
They own part of the rights to the movie designs, and so that means they have a say in the production of anything with those Transformer designs on them. That's why anything from the movie toy line and such has Universal on the copyright (although for those repaints from earlier lines like Movie Inferno the rights only apply to the box I think)
The Transformers films are a Paramount/DreamWorks production. When shopping for his new studio, Spielberg was not searching for a new distributor to TFs but his other films undeveloped at the studio, which shall remain with Par and DW unless Hasbro revokes them.
Not that i've ever particularly cared for Dreamworks CG films (as in, Shark Tale, Kung Fu Panda etc) I think it sucks that they've gone with Disney. I dislike Disney being what seems to be basically the only company running CG/kids movies. Though in saying that, Pixar is still producing fine, fine films.
