more must have games for the DC that I dont think have been mentioned:
Garou: Mark of the Wolves and Last Blade 2. Both were among the last games released in the US for the system.

I miss my dreamcast.. wish I never sold it :(

I really loved Rush 2049 and NFL Blitz, and quake 3 was alright. I never really got to play many other games.

The question is: buy which versions? I've heard diehard Neo fans say that the import versions are better than the US releases. I own both versions of MOTW, but I've only played the import, and I've only played the US version of LB2. What's different? I have no clue other than the insert and manual artwork being nicer on the imports. All I know is that these ports hold their own against my arcade versions of MOTW and LB2.

The one time I played Garou on the Dreamcast, there was a horrible lag on the sound effects. I never touched it again.

That's odd. I didn't have any problems with my Garou either.

My friend had a DC that had issues with lag on the sound.
NFL2K worked fine, but Soul Caliber and Street Fighter III had serious issues with the sound.

I still got my dreamcast. It's got tons of awesome titles for it, like crazi taxi, marvel vs. capcom 2, spiderman, etc.

    Dreamcast.

Not to start a piracy debate or whatever, because it is wrong ... but the games are downloadable and require no modchip to play. (considering the DC is made before December 2001)

There are some legendary games for the Saturn though. Here are some from my personal collection.

Finding a Saturn mod to play imports / backups is next to impossible.

No, no, NO! Seaman is undoubtedly one of the greatest and most innovative games to date. Not to mention it has a sequel coming out on the Wii. Basically you raise this small creature called a "seaman" by using a microphone (like n64's "Hey you Pikachu!"). Dependin on how well you take care of him overtime, he elvoles through various forms (but each on has the same human face).

    YES! BUY A DREAMCAST!!!

(!) Just make sure to get the REGION FREE version that they first sold when the console was released. That way you can play games like Shenmue 2 which was only released in the UK for dreamcast.

Shenmue II is the sequel to the Sega Dreamcast Modern Action Adventure, RPG, Full Reactive Eyes Entertainment (FREE) game Shenmue, written and directed by Yu Suzuki. The game was first released in Japan on September 6, 2001 for the Dreamcast. Soon after the release, it was announced that Microsoft had obtained exclusive rights to the game in the United States for its Xbox system, which cancelled the US release of the Dreamcast version. The Xbox version was launched in the US on October 28, 2002.

However, the Dreamcast version did get published in Europe by Sega of Europe (distributed through an agreement with BigBen Interactive) on November 23, 2001. Unlike Shenmue, no English dub was made for the Dreamcast's version of Shenmue II; the original Japanese audio was supplemented with English subtitles in the European release.

The chips got hard to find for awhile, when one of the main manufacturers was short on parts. They seem to be common again. There are also ways you can usually manage to install the chip without any soldering. After that, you just need an all-in-one Pro Action Replay, and you're set to play any Saturn game there is. You also don't have to worry about removed music or downsampled videos, which are common in Dreamcast bootlegs.

Oddity of note: you don't need a chip to play imports.

Saturn has two separate protection schemes. One is for region lockout, and the other is for piracy. The common Saturn mod chips that connect between the main board and the laser assembly only allow... um... backups. Imports still won't work, even if they're legitimate. To play imports, you need to either modify the ISO with a region changing tool, or use a cartridge that will bypass the region key. Common region bypasses include the Saturn Turbo Key and any version of the Pro Action Replay.

    that's great info. :)

$12!? Was there any soldering involved. I chipped mine a LOOOOONG time ago and from what I remember, it was solder free. The chip acted like a go-between and was placed between the motherboard and system laser.

    another topic ...
I don't want to get in trouble, but how stiff is TFW on "suggesting" sites which may contain illegal downloads?

I do have this one suggestion which would benefit many.

I used to know a great message board that indexed Saturn trading FTP sites. They stopped doing that a few years ago though :(
