Well. I'll be a monkey's uncle.....
I wonder if it can be done well. I'd hate to see another Street Fighteresq movie. Then again, and I haven't watched much anime lately but hasn't DBZ ran it's course? Well, If the trailer looks good, I will still probably shell out the bucks to see it.
With DBZ it will all depend on the Make-up, outfits and the actors. If they get actors that can't pull it off or horribly mis matched from the characters it won't work.
I don't think it can be done. I mean, really, how are they gonna condense the entire Saiyan saga down into a 2-hour movie? Hell, some episodes of DBZ just have two characters staring at each other for just the whole episode.
All of a sudden Im thinking of a merging between the Double Dragon movie and the street fighter movie *shutter*
[SCREAMS BLOODY MURDER]:
Say it ain't so! They're actually doing this? I mean for real? I know from most experince that you don't judge a book by its cover, I think most of us do, but seriously... DBZ as a live action movie? [Sigh]: Show me what you can do reality, and perhaps I will give you the benifit of the doubt. But Until then... I shall continue to doubt this a actual and logical possibility.
It would be easy to do. Do away with Raditz showing up first. Have Freeza and Vegeta show up in search of the Dragon Balls. Goku has the number four ball like when he is a kid. They beat Goku, he "dies," trains, and comes back more powerful. Somehow or other, Vegeta is redeemed, everyone has their butts handed to them by Freeza, and Goku achieves super saiyajin status to save the planet and his friends/family. Do away with Raditz, the Z fighters training, the fight between Nappa and part of the fight against Vegata, the trip to and battle on Namek, and you could cram the first 90 episodes of DBZ into one 2 hour film.
Since it's supposed to be a trilogy, do the same thing with Cell and Buu and it could be pulled off.
To be fair, that was only because the morons that made the anime thought that it was a good idea to stretch short manga stories into 20 minute episodes. If they were unedited, it would have been 5-7 minute episodes at most.
Still, I can't see this happening with a big budget, a competent director and a qualified screen writer. And even then it's just a maybe.
God, think of the hairspray they'll have to use to make Goku's gravity defying hair style.
and then the flying....we'll see.
If they can pull it off, it'll be one hell of a movie.
Only YEARS after it quit being something people cared about...
I dont know. For one. In all seriousness. How the fuck are you supossed to capture any of the Sayians hair without looking like a idiot on the big-screen?? Another thing. Your going to need a big ass budget if you want to stay true to the fight scenes of DBZ(When the finally fucking happend) I mean shit gets blown up alot when they start fighting.
Dragon Ball Z: A Michael Bay Film.
Look, I like DBZ, I really do...
but this... I can't see it being done. Where are they going to start? I mean, there's a LOT of backstory to go over if they really do start with Z...
I just can't see how they can work this and still make it entertaining.
Original story maybe?
Hey, where's my "This thread is useful without pics!" smiley?
That would sum things up nicely.
Well, granted it wasn't a live-action film but Cloud's hair on Final Fantasy VII Advent Children looked fine; all they did was make the spikes less exaggerated.
As a very long-time fan of Dragon Ball Z (if it weren't for that show, I wouldn't have gotten into anime), I'm worried. I simply don't think Dragon Ball Z can be done well in live-action when you consider the amount of...umm...off-the-wall-ness; try to imagine King Kai in live-action and you might see what I'm getting at.
I love Dragonball and DBZ, I really hope this movie doesn't turn out like DBGT though lol. Sorry to any DBGT fans(if there are any).
