Maybe he couldn't find him? or he needed to wait for the big guns (Blackout, Starscream, Bonecrusher, Brawl) before trying to get him and the AS out of the dam.
he couldnt find megatron or the allspark because their energon signal's were hidden from teh hoover dam. the whole reason they made the dam in the first place (and transported megatron to it) was to mask those energies from aliens looking for and finding them
He excels at gathering intel. You'd think he would have been able to find any sort of document on Megatron's whereabouts. Especially with Laserbeaks help.
Frenzy had to hack THE FREAKING PENTAGON to have a clue about Megatron's whereabouts, the information was hidden. VERY well-hidden.
And we are back to the point why Soundwave couldn't have done that before the rest arrived. Laserbeak could have been hacking the computer on board of Airforce 1 instead of Frenzy. The Movies are simply riddled with plotholes. Or where was he during the final battle? Soundwave first appeared in ROTF and the DOTM messed up that continuity. But anyone who gobbles these Movies up, doesn't pay attention to story anyway.
Internet didn't exist in the Sixties [and sucked for some twenty years]. Besides, hack the Pentagon would unleash the human's wrath, Soundwave was working undercover, he had to wait for SS to bring his army of DOOM. Putting Laserbeak to hack Air Force One would be like putting a farmer to do build a pyramid: Laserbeak is a assassin, FRENZY is the hacker. Answers can be found rather easily: Megatron's plot involved betraying The Fallen, Soundwave, being on pair with that, simply stepped out of the battle. You simply WANT to find plotholes, not answers.
Actually I do [ROTF sucked, Leo was annoying as hell, Shockwave could have more screen-time, Sam/Mikaela were annoying, e.t.c], but I like the movies anyway, I think the qualities override the flaws. As I like the movies, I put some effort in answering plotholes that can be easily answered. You dislike the movies, so you lack that effort. Is quite simple, in fact.
DOTM Soundwave for the win!!!! I got chills when he walked up in Africa and Laserbeak landed on his arm!!!!
I think that Rotf was more true to his character, but I liked his design and the fact that he had more screen time in Dotm.
DOTM. By far. The character of Soundwave wasn't very prominent in ROTF, and in DOTM, it was cool to see him interacting with other bots. It's also kinda wierd he's about Bumblebee's size. I don't really care though, one less gigantic robot to get slaughtered by Optimus. Just Bee. Also, that Mercedes car that he has for his alt-mode is awesome. Only thing is that in DOTM, he had a kind of a wierd mouth. He looked like a dog the way he talked. I preferred his cool mandibles in ROTF. Can't wait to pick up the HA version, hope it's good.
I think the specific relationship with Dylan was new, since he was in space for all of ROTF. I think he just implanted himself recently, however he had been aware of the alliance. The Decepticons are clearly able to work without Megatron, so He probably left it to those more capable to find Megatron.
Without a doubt, ROTF Soundwave. His design was way better, and he fit the "Soundwave" character way more than DOTM Soundwave did. DOTM Soundwave could've been any old Decepticon.
I love all of Bay's Soundwave. He's had three alts in the movies so far; a satellite, an SUV(DotM prequel game), and now a Mercedes. How awesome is that!
