I just saw DOTM today, and it was awesome. I was reading about it on TV Tropes, and read that in the novelization, it ends differently, with Optimus and Megatron teaming up to kill Sentinel and then making a truce, and Megatron going back to Cybertron. Who else thinks they should've used this ending in the movie? It would've been way better, in my opinion.

There's been at least three threads about this (one by me, actually) with polls and everything. The general consensus is that the novel/comic ending was a hell of a lot better than the movie.

Novel was better, IMO. I can image Optimus and Megatron shaking hands with a UN flag behind them.

Might want to check the results of the polls, friend, instead of falsely speaking for everyone here.

I'll have you know I am a trained professional at holding glares, especially over the Internet. This isn't a battle you want to fight.

Out of curiosity, though, have you read the novelization?

No, I just think the whole "IMA SRRY WE BE FRIENDZ PLZ KTHXBAI" thing is just completely out of character for Megatron. Developed or not, he wouldn't just bend over and accept to being Optimus' bitch.

Stryker055: I actually read the novelization and I still preferred the movie ending: Megatron didn't deserve to live after three movies of hurting innocents on screen, as well as millennia of hurting them in the backstory.

Well, the ending in the novel can leave something to pick out and make a sequel out of, the movie has nothing really to do after, unless it's like a final stand for one Decepticon fighting it out on Earth for his/her life.

Well, that's not what happened, but I do completely see where you're coming from. I just like it because it gives Megatron a sense of character and depth other than simply a more homicidal G1 Megs.

He's been fighting for the survival of his planet, and all the plans he had in place and all the allies he thought he made failed and turned on him. His army was destroyed, he had no escape, no last-second trump card or anything, so he fell to his knees and begged Optimus for death.

Prime refusal, IMO, would have been a neat contrast to his rather murderous character trait of brutally slaughtering every Decepticon he comes across, but the one he called his brother, his nemesis, he would have spared. I just think it would have been a cool and perfect end to that. Besides, the Prime in the novel only accepted the "truce" because he held out hope that the war would come to an end. He even had doubts that Megatron would keep to his word, but he let him go because of that hope.

Unfortunately, those thoughts couldn't be conveyed in the film (a Micheal Bay film, anyway), so this Optimus is more or less a pretty bland character, just like Megatron. Because of the horrible lack of character the Transformers are given in the films, we got no internal monolouge or development that would have given the novel ending much more credibility in the film. But, as it is, the film's ending was the only way to go for the film. I simply prefer the novel ending, as it is a perfect wrap-up to the characters that were established in it.

Wow, this post went a hell of a lot longer than I expected it to be.

    @Stryker055:
I completely Respect Your Opinion and Preference :thumbs2:

but Megatron as a fallen hero
or he was just trying to save his planet
doesn't really do it for me.
How is he fighting for his planet
When he's the One who put it into that Position.

in my own Opinion Optimus has Never Killed
with out Reason to say he's Murderess doesn't
make sense to me because in war you have to
kill. and the Decepicons are usually much bigger
and have a lot more then the bots do so you
have to take them down hard or they'll just keep
getting back up to kill more bots and more innocent
    lives
I completely Understand and Respect that you
Prefer the novel Ending to the Movie
I just Happen to Like the Movie Better Myself
