Considering the genre, a nomination for Visual Effects is pretty damn big. This is our equivalent for Best Picture because ILM played a huge role in bringing these characters to life.

POTA to win VFX. Also the fact Serkis wasn't nominated and the inclusion of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is disgraceful.

Oh yeah and Transformers herp derp.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Kind of a long name for a movie so people sometimes just shorten it to POTA.

    Ah.

I think Transformers has a shot, but then again, Planet of the Apes.

Hmm, I would've thought Pirates of the Ass, which I hear is expected to win big at AVN.

As much as I'd love to see DOTM get some Academy recognition, you can pretty much tell Hugo is the 'Make sure it wins as much as possible' nominee this year. Moi, cynical about the Oscars?

I predict not a single win for DOTM and the obligatory nerdrage that follows. It's sad, but true. The Academy simply can't be bothered to award ILM for their work on these movies.

One of the many flaws of the Oscar Awards is that everyone knows it's more about Hollywood politics than it is about the merits of a film. So sadly I don't think the academy voters are going to look at the work done by ILM and the physical effects crew but more on what the small circle of academy voters will find the Hollywood fuddy duddy choice based on something other than merit.

There is no best story award, only Best Screenplay.

If Transformers is beaten by bloody chimps I will rage just like 2007 where Ironhide's 10,000 CG part cannons lost to talking polar bears. Watch the documentaries on the wing suits by Digital Domain, it is brilliant.

Actually, as weird as this sounds, I think the wing suit stunts coupled with the production involved with Chicago, I think those could help DOTM win the Visual Effects category.

maybe it will be like lord of the rings where they were nominated for best picture three times but only won for the last movie- kind of an award for the whole trilogy. Maybe they will get the award because the trilogy kind of deserves it.

I think it's because the story and the effects have to go hand and hand. DOTM's visuals while impressive pails to the comparrison of it's shallow plot.

However I still call B.S with The Golden Compass in 2008.
