You push the gold handle in, and when it's in as far as it can go, twist it about 90 degrees. You can twist it in either direction. You can't twist it unless it's in all the way. You do have to turn it kind of hard, but if it feels like it's going to break, then stop. Hope that helps.

You twist the button clockwise after pushing it in to get it to lock. I didn't think mine would at first either, but then I read comments on here from people who said they actually thought they broke it because it makes a significant cracking sound when it clicks the first time. That encouraged me to try again, and it does now work.

Well, I tried it again, and, I heard a cracking sound. I looked down in mild horror. And then- VICTORY!!!

Thank you to everyone who helped!

The funny part is, after you feel like you broke it, it's never hard to do again

For the record, they don't ALL lock. Most of the first wave deluxes don't.

The reason it makes a loud click and feels like it's going to break when you turn it clockwise is because it's supposed to be turned counter-clockwise! No clicks, no stress, just a firm lock!

Apparently, it can be turned either way, but doing so the wrong way may do damage eventually.

Most of the Deluxes period don't have locking weapons. The only ones that do are Starscream and Laserbeak's combining weapons.

However, it's usually a pretty easy mod to make them lock. Removing the spring, and adding some superglue for stiffness usually works.

Barricade's seems to lock. Or it could just be that mine got stuck

Technically its not really locking, but more like relying on its own gears and the stiffness of the joints to keep it in mode 2. but really, why the designers of those things added springs in the deluxe class weapons anyways? they did that on purpose?

Normally you don't push it too far in to extend the blade. To lock it properly, you need to push the trigger all the way until you hear a click. THEN twist it. You can do it without fully pushing the trigger but then you can start seeing part of the spring mechanism... which I'm sure is a problem... >_>

Hmm... just tried it on mine and it clicked in easily, but it also made the two halves of the part split open more than I'm comfortable with. I don't think I'll be locking that again.

Yeah, you guys are turning it the wrong way. It's counter-clockwise! Mine doesn't click and never has. In fact, mine won't even turn clockwise.

Did I just quote myself? :lol

But yes, exactly... I was really starting to feel like, after reading this thread, that only MINE turned that way! And mine does turn clockwise, but with enough tension (and a horrible clicking sound) I knew it must be the wrong way. Only did it once then tried the opposite direction. Tis the way to go.
