    DOTM voyager Shockwave hose 1.5
    Update Dec 31, 2011

    Hi guys,

This is just a little test I wanted to do which I found the perfect application for. I wanted to see if it is possible to construct 'chains' which could be printed as one single assembly on Shapeways, which makes things a lot more convenient for buyers and the folks at Shapeways.

Also, I hated the soft rubbery hose voyager Shockwave came with.

Shockwave's hose is composed of a series of links which are attached to each other through deadlocked ball-joints. No, you can't disassemble them but you sure can try. The loose balljoints allow the hose to flex quite a bit, I'd say even more than the stock hose, and the entire thing drapes and weighs down pretty realistically. Just remember to twist and wriggle the hose around to remove the powder trapped in the crevices.

The sample shown in the photos is the same length as the original hose, but I have added a few more links to it after getting some feedback from board members. Now it measures up an impressive 16.5 cm in length.

The pegs at the end are slightly wider than 5mm. Shave them down to fit whatever socket you want to put them in.

And why yes, I custom painted this Shockwave and dirtied him up. Here's another picture. You're welcome.

Have a happy new year and enjoy yourselves!

You can order the hose at DOTM Shockwave hose on Shapeways.

This looks helpful. I lost the original hose anyway after swearing I wouldn't.

THANK YOU! That hose bugged me beyond belief! This will be my first Shapeways order. Now I'll just have to find a way to maximize the shipping with any other product(s)...

Very nice! If this isn't final may I suggest making the hose 4-5 links longer than stock? We could always cut off what we don't need, but a little more length would be awesome for poses!

    Hi hank!

Well, the current one is 3 links longer than stock, I can add extra links but it's not so easy to shorten it. I just tried disconnecting a link off my spare hose and the stem of the ball joint broke as a result.

You can still modify the length, but that entails you to cut off the 5mm peg and re-attach it to one of the other links. Do you still want me to lengthen it anyway?

Maybe you design one short and one long one? The thing that bugged me most about the stock one is how much it limited his posability. I couldn't get any decent poses without the hose popping out...

How about we meet in the middle. :thumbs2:  Make a supplemental piece 3-4 links long with a female 5mm port on one side and the 5mm peg on the other. Then it can easily be added, or removed.

That's a great idea! I would maybe order several of those instead of the one long one...

I see what you mean. It's very much possible. The only catch is that specific link with the 5mm peg will not be flexible like the rest. That portion will be 'stiff'.

    Something like that:

These look perfect. Might even add them to my classics shockwave eventually. A great idea for pose-ability too!

I was thinking some more about this... Maybe what I'll do is order this hose and then, if need be, us the stock hose to lengthen it. I could cut the stock hose in half, cut off sections I don't need from each half, drill a hole at the end of the halves, and put each half on the ends of the Shapeways hose...

The hose arrived yesterday and it's perfect. I don't think it'll need any lengthening at all. Shocwave is so much more posable with this one. And I really like how you did the pegs, fakebusker. Don't have to worry about them being loose or anything.
After I get around to painting it I'll have to post some pics...

It really feels amazing doesn't it? It comes stiff as a cadaver, but once you loosen it up it is as good a hose there ever was. You can't do that with traditional factory molding that;s for sure. Glad you like it!

    And yes....pictures....?
