It's not just the US economy because look at how numbers break down between domestic and international.

Revenge of the Fallen domestic $402,111,870 and foreign $434,191,823. Dark of the Moon domestic $352,275,878 and foreign $766,850,500.

So even though the domestic box office actually dropped off between films with the extra money of the 3D surcharge a rise in disposable income outside of the domestic market made for a bigger box office take between films.

Of course those fans who want to make so much about the box office take do love to leave out that wee little bit that Dark of the Moon had a domestic box office that was $49,835,992 less than the previous film.

Probably as much as I wonder if anyone else possess a sense of humour, or indeed the ability to grasp the concept of personal opinion on an internet forum, eh?
