Has Transformers 3 Fallen Behind? - Movies News at IGN
You have to remember DOTM opened on a Wednesday. Not a Friday. $42M is fantastic for opening mid-week, and is a far cry from "not doing well", It's still not as good as the numbers from ROTF, but its more than enough to justify a 4th movie if they decide to go that route.
im not worried. this story might change after 4th of july weekened.
I'm rootin' for this movie, and usually I wouldn't give two craps!
*pinches brow of nose* It's got the biggest opening night of the summer, and it's "not doing too well"? Really?
ROTF also came out to less competition.
Why don't we see how things play out beyond the first 24 hours, IGN?
It didn't even open on a weekend, but a Tuesday. Have a feeling this weekend will have a good turnout
Not only all of the good points already made here, but have any of these whiners taken into account that this is the third movie in a franchise where the second movie disappointed/pissed off a whole ton of people? Favorable word of mouth will probably end up helping DOTM, but I seriously am not surprised that it had a weaker opening after people got suckerpunched with ROTF.
This summer is huge for "blockbuster" movies, also. TF3 is going to have two solid weeks of raking in the $$$ without any serious competition before it takes a HUGE nosedive on July 15th. That's when the final Harry Potter movie comes out. Then one week later, Captain America.
Still, even if it doesn't do $200 in five days, so what? $170 or so isn't anything to thumb your nose at, either.
Talk about quick to shit on someting....
Did they already forget this opened on a Tuesday night? How about waiting until after the holiday weekend before saying it under-sold.
Ah yes, IGN, the bastion of journalism and accuracy.
Damn. I actually liked their movie podcast show too. What a dumbass article.
Also keep in mind that RotF had bizarre opening day success. The backlash didn't really hit in time to put a serious dent in the numbers, and audience satisfaction surveys were actually unusually high as well IIRC.
The weekend hasn't even happened yet. It will be big.
To be fair, so did ROTF.
But yeah, I really think things should at least wait after the first weekend has passed before they go into ticket sales. Next thing you know, they'll calculating ticket sales by the hour.
I guess it's time for me to go see it again
Just give it the weekend and it'll catch up.
Seriously, people. It's an overblown headline if anything. DOTM is still doing an amazing job, and hell did you guys not see the worldwide totals? Not bad for a movie that only came out TWO DAYS AGO.
If I wasn't too lazy to change my sig, I'd add it.
Well it's just barely started, I'm sure it's gonna have a good turn around in the coming weeks.
This extremely biased and misleading thread title should be changed. $43 million in 27 hours and the top grossing Wednesday of 2011 is hardly 'not doing well'.
Beat me to it.
I mean, this is IGN.. aren't they like the Fox News of geeky fandoms?
