Here is a pictorial review of Dark of the Moon Skids.

Is it upgrade time? Or down grade time?

Let me first say I love the twins. I am in a minority here but oh well.

This is a new mold for Skids. He is actually about the same size in vehicle mold as his ROTF counterpart. There are some noticable difference on the car though as you can see. Also its kind of a reverse as he his mostly black with some green.

Skids has 2 mech-tech ports on the roof of the car in alt. mode.

Alt. mode and compared with ROTF Skids:

Mech-tech gun sort of looks like an engine block. Has a sight and tip. The mech tech is activated by pulling the sight back and forth to pop out 2 blaster barrels. These mech-tech guns like Crankcase move like PCC limbs but can not lock in place, which again is a downside I think.

    Bot mode:
Yes, his feet are that big and transformed properly, end of discussion lol!!!

His transformation has been simplified from the ROTF version. Not as many folding parts or back kibble, thought the ROTF did not have much. He is a little shorter as well and lacks pose ability from the ROTF version.

Legs connect to body by a ball joint. Knees are inverted which is a bummer. Legs swivel at the thigh. Feet have a heel that folds out.

    No waist movement.

Arms bend at the elbow and connect with a screw for rotation at the shoulder attached to the tire area. The whole arm including tires are attached with a pin and allow for minimal movement.

Head can rotate 360 degrees. Has a mech-tech port behind his head.

Door panel on his right arm can either stay black side of the car, or flipped around to show some green as well as a mech-tech port.

Back folds up much more flat now as well due to less panels separating from car mode.

Overall the DOTM Skids is a fun little deluxe with a fun and simple transformation. The feet and the reversed knee movement and height are the main issues for me.

Hard to tell at this point how much he represents his screen counterpart but time will tell. Look forward to seeing Mudflap and the HA Skids for DOTM.

EDIT: In response to the knees:

I went back and looked at the legs more. In this first pic you can see where the plastic on the joint his the foot, this what would probably need to be shaved off. You can see a small stress mark made from me trying to push the leg back further.

Part of the reason for the big feet and inverted knees is because of proportion and weight. He is a bit top heavy, so the feet need to be longer and with inverted knees it prevents him from falling back. If you alter or shave this piece, he may just tip back because now the weight off the feet forward will not support him.

But you can rotate the feet back wards and with a little balance, its not perfect, will give him corrected knee movement and offer some better possibility, plus it kind of makes him a little more proportionate, which I kind of like...

Are those even knees? His feet are so huge they could pass as ankles.

I just can't believe it is 2011 and we have another deluxe (essentially) without knees. At least it's not as shocking as the Armada de-evolution.

Not bad. Vehicle mode is sharp. In terms of Transformation, is he more or less than ROTF?

I really hope him and his brother don't shelf warm as bad this time.

Thanks for the review, I will pick both him and his brother up, but these ones will be staying in car mode for many reasons.
    1. Car mode looks pretty damn sick IMO
    2. Like the Twins being difference base colors in the display
    3. Those cankles are out of control
    4. He must be pretty damn short, seeing as his deluxe from the first movie isn't all that big.

Vehicle mode to me is brilliant, but the bot mode seems off. The feets, arms and lack of knee joints kill the figure for me so I won't be buying. Shame. :(

I actually like this toy. I didn't get the deluxe Skids from ROTF and instead went for the HA, but I think I'm gonna pick this one up, because it looks pretty fun. Of course, I want to see the CGI Model as well, but I guess I'll have to wait for that :lol

I like him but the inverted knees are really killing it for me.

It was the same with Ironhide and his weird arm articulation.

    Cankles!

Is he going to have a new paint job in DotM? Kind of odd we get the black repain before the original color release.

Downgrade time indeed. That's a tiny deluxe. We're getting close to Scout size there.

Not sure yet how I feel about the big feet and the simpler transformation. Ironhide and Megatron don't appear to me as dumbed down but this one does. Love the weapon though.

Well this is the biggest problem I have with mechtech. Almost every toy we've seen has lost some of the size and quality we have come to expect from this line, which I can only assume is due to some trade-off connected to the new gimmick. The simplicity of the toys may also be more kid-friendly. Some of the rotf toys were fairly complex, including the skids and mudflap molds. Either way, we have taken a step back I think to accommodate a lame gimmick, and probably to make it all more approachable to their primary demographic which is the kids. Prime toys look great though!!
