As Optimus Prime this guy doesn't really do it for me but I think the mold would be a GREAT candidate for a Motormaster remold (although the lack of a trailer may irk some).

Deluxe class Optimus Prime just made a couple of new friends:

Whirl is needed since Deluxe Prime does not have any heels to prevent him from tipping back due to the weight of the back kibble + Laserbeak

Various Brands but the easiest to use is the Citadel Colours as they thin up with a dab of water for a really smooth finish. Tamiya paint can clog. but I do use it a little anyway.

I used to use Gunge Sanyo a lot as it has some cool colours and effects paints (it's quite hard to find though).

Game colour & Humbrol Acrylic is also OK but in General Citadel Colour is the best one I've found so far.

Thanks for the input. I have tried with testor model paint and the results are ok but it does wear off. :(

    Wal*Mart Exclusive Optimus

So much to love, somethings to hate.

    -=Love=-
The Paint apps on vehicle mode are top notch, they actually painted the hubs. How can the apps be so good on a Deluxe, yet so craptastic on the ROTF Voyager?
The Transformation is easy, quick, without being G1 stand the car up and it's transformed.
A Big improvement over the Universe 2 pack Deluxe.

    -=Hate=-
QC. The mechtech ports came with paint missing, like it's been rubbed off from inserting the weapon over and over. The front grill was bent a little.
The robot mode. While good with posability, the head can't turn. It doesn't clear the cab enough.
And the huge backpack he has, the whole front of the truck, is as ungainly as the mechtech weapons.

I've considered him, but I am hesitant. Also, he costs 16 dollars where I live.

    1. Is the backpack loose?
    2. Is there a way to lock the gun into axe mode?
    3. How is the articulation?

Everything Agent Adam said. Articulation is excellent, aside from the issues with head clearance. And he looks great with ROTF Brawn's pistols. As for the weapon, I don't like it. I dont like Deluxe Mechtech weapons in general, you cant lock them into extended mode, but still. But like Adam said, just a simple matter of unscrewing two screws, removing a spring, and putting it together again.

This guy is tied with Topspin for tallest Deluxe of the line, methinks. But he's certainly not as good as Topspin.

A friend picked this guy up for me (actually for my daughter) for $5 - for that price I think this guy is awesome.

Shoulders are a touch wonky but I can live with the backpack, like the transformation, and really like the truck paint job. Some of the custom pics in this thread make this guy look epic and really bring out all the mold detail that is here.

I still like him, but Topspin was my favorite deluxe from the line. There's no contest.

I shouldn't have quoted you - not sure why I did actually, bad habit maybe, as I didn't mean to imply one was better than the other just that I found myself suprisingly really liking this guy.

As of late I am learning to appreciate this figure even more and he scales well now with the newer AOE deluxe bumblebees
