I was going to get some pictures of this when I was done with it in the daylight, but it got dark as soon as I was done. I removed the old dreads (one took the post it was on with it) and the top piece that was (supposed) to hold them on. I threaded the central link around the screw when I put the head back together, and attached the other dreads to the second and third links from the center.

Thanks, guys. It was a real pain getting the chain looped over the screw.

It's looking good; wonder how would look with smaller chain links

It was a tough choice on the aisle in the craft store. I ultimately went with the larger links because they'd be more visible, I'd need less of them to cover the same area, and they were easier to work with.

Of course if any enterprising customizer wants to try the smaller links, they certainly have my blessing.

On that note, first post updated with bitter pictures, and a shot of how I did it.

Cool. I'm wondering about the smaller chain links as well. Do you plan on applying some weathering?

Cool, I'll have to do this if the dreads on mine break off. Does he still transform about the same? It seems like it might almost be easier now...

really nice idea, BUT the chain pieces must be smaller, then it would look more in scale

He transforms just fine. You just have to make sure all the chains are in the chest cavity, or they'll be hanging down through his undercarriage.

I love it, and I especially love how you made him hold Bumblebee's severed head like something from Predator. Always thought the dreads in the movie were Predator based. =)

I actually work in a shop with many sizes of chain available - I'd probably be able to do it with a smaller one - but I can't get my hands on Crankcase at retail. Dang.
