The cold front got here this past evening. We're expected to have freezing rain tonight in addition to having windchill reach as far low as below zero, which is rare for where I live in Texas. Then again, I live in the Panhandle. Oh, and we're supposed to have like 3-4 inches of snow possibly. 70% chance of snow for tomorrow. Anyway, I hate this kind of weather. I cannot wait until summer gets here with beautiful simmering high 90s/low 100s degree temperatures.
My wife got the green light to work from home tomorrow from the Feds. I don't have to go in tomorrow as well.
This past snowstorm apparently screwed with the roads so badly that the city doesn't want to risk it again. Stories about people taking 8 hours to get home instead of the usual hour up in Maryland. But that's Maryland and DC for you. We here in NoVA are always better prepared.
Because you stay home and off the roads! j/k Nashville is like that, one winter thousands took over 8hrs to get home that day, some never made it at all, just checked in local hotels. I had a co-worker who stayed in a hotel for a week..place was a mess. Yeah, but then you guys will "slide" into the ocean next week. We're gonna be about the same tomorrow then a little cooler the next few days.
What I really don't get is when they cancel schools here but not work. If both parents work, who the hell is gonna watch the kids at home? One of the parents will have to take the day off but depending on the job, good luck asking your boss to give you the day off. If schools are cancelled, work should be too!
Too true, my SIL will save all of her vacation days and use them for snow days when my nephew is home from school. My last workplace was pretty cool about bringing your kid in for the day..they wanted you there, so they tolerated the kid. Guess parents just have to make it work somehow..but it does rip.
Just one word...EWWWWWW The post didn't get thru?..the only time that's happened here was during the May floods. Wow!! Federal employees..ssshheessshhh
Yup. The trash and recycling guys don't come if the weather is particularly bad. They usually come the next week but last year during Snowmageddon I recall they skipped a pick up entirely. Luckily for us, we get two pick ups for trash a week and once for recycles so it wasn't like trash was literally stinking up the place. Post usually resumes the following day once the plows clear everything. Speaking of which, this year out plows seem to be on high alert. I always see them on the side of our roads waiting for the green light to salt the roads. Glad to see them too. Our roads are usually plowed throughout the night so the next day the roads are all already clear.
I am far enough north the worst is going to miss me up here, but then again it already feels and looks like the arctic XD
Man, am I glad. Athens here is literally about an hours' drive south of the "path of ice" that this storm's supposed to leave. A bit of a freezing rain in the morning and that's it. SO GLAD we won't have to worry about everything being covered in ice and the power going out.
I'm supposed to get anywhere between 12-20 inches of snow by Thursday. Its annoying when you have to commute to work in it.
Be thankful you live in an area with lots of plows and people to operate them. Here we get the interstate and primary roads plowed or brined, folks on secondary and neigborhood streets..never. Stuffs just has to melt away. Beastbox X..good thing you're just out of the line of fire xanthax..Yikes!! Hang in there!
Been sleeting in the north east of Kansas all day and we're told the snow will start early in the morning and continue for the next few days. Roads are going to be hellish.
What I've hated most about the winter here is that every time the roads are clear enough to drive on, no ice or almost no slush, is when it snows again. And today we had sleet.
Yeah, you poor guys in the midwest are gonna get slammed. Not quite as bad here..we've been getting a little break between snows, but not as much as usual. In Jan. we had over 10 inches of snow for the month..the usual is 2 inches. Me not like this much
I dont like the sound of ice. Last time I heard this I had to leave my car for over week on Rt. 78. what a mess that was.
