Yes, when people calls Cybertronians robots?

    I do xD

I mean, they arent robots, they are mechanical life-forms...which can sound like the same thing but it is not.

They arent robots, because, nobody created them. Robot is a human term, for a man-made machine, designed for a specific purpose. Also, just because they seem made out of metal doesnt make them robots, not all robots are made of metal, many of today's robots are composed of more materials other than metal. And not all xenobiologic specimens forcibly have to be made of flesh.

Robot is a just a conception. Cybertronians are not robots because theyre alive, they feel, they can think. It's simply that they are mechanical.

I know, even the Autobots call themselves "Robotic organisms", but that maybe simply an analog word they found to their cybertronian equivalent, so Sam could understand better. And to fit the "Autobot" abbreviation, plot-wise xD

I hate it specially when people involved in anything related to Transformers calls them robots, like Michael Bay, designers, etc.

I just think that although Cybertronians can be defined as robots, its just too simplistic a definition when applied to them. So I dont really like to call them robots.

    What do you think? xD

I looked up the definition for "robot," and it just says a machine capable of carrying out tasks automatically or by remote. So technically they could be considered robots.

    I see them as robots.

Highly advanced self aware robots but since they have things like gears instead of muscle fiber and they don't seem to be made out of individual cells that kind of says robot.

It's a bit like with humans. We are simians even though we aren't strong as some other primates, we don't have as much hair, and we invented the internet to fling pooh farther than the other great apes.

The term "robot" has multiple definitions though - and in that regard Cybertronians could still be considered robots. So if you're gonna get chapped every time you hear the phrase "robots in disguise" in relation to the Transformers, I really don't know what to tell you. :rolleyes2

We refer to them as robots because we have no other term to describe them. It's like Sentinel mentioned in DOTM, we call them machines because that is what we relate them to, even if they themselves are offended by the term.

I have a mild dislike for the term because it sounds silly, I only mention them as "robots" when I'm making a joke, I prefer calling them "machines" instead.

I have only a dislike for characters in-universe refering them as robots ["machines" I can go with it], because it sounds silly [again].

Only some exceptions can be taken, like when characters are too exasperated to think straight ["YOU THINK THE UNITED STATES WOULDN'T LIKE TO KNOW YOU'RE KEEPING A GIANT ROBOT FROZEN IN THE BASEMENT?"] or are being funny ["It's a super-advanced giant robot...must be japanese, defnitely japanese"].

Maybe you should change that to organics did not create them because in science fiction we see robots that were made by alien species.

I likes my robots. After all, they are robots in disguise. Just because they are sentient don't mean they aren't robots. I like my robot toys, and transformers are toy robots, therefore I like them. In fiction, they are robots, because they are made of metal and have mechanical innards.

No I don't. What I do hate, is whenever I tell my aunt that I was saddened by Optimus's death in ROTF and Ironhide's in DOTM, she'll respond in a snippy manner "Jeez, they're just ROBOTS for christ's sake!". :mad

Ironically, I almost never get sad when humans die in movies. Probably because I hate most of our species as is. I even hate being human. Don't get me wrong, most of you guys on this board are awesome! Outside of the internet though? I'll stick to being a hermit, thank you very much.

    Yes they are.

Hell "Robots in Disguise." It's in the theme song of the original cartoon.

Besides, "robots" sounds cool, "mechanical lifeforms" sounds lame. :/

People think too damn hard about this stuff.
