and if not could one still use them as suitable stand ins for shuttle gunner and leyland to create a more modern day battle gaia combiner set?

    using
    energon/rotf reverb
    Reverb (Movie) - Transformers Wiki

    in place of target hawk

    energon/rotf gunbarrel

    and energon barricade

or would some bit of partswapping be required to give the shuttle and jeep limb figures back their combiner abilities from munitioner and explorer?

You'd need the accessory parts from the Mutioner/Explorer pack to combine them.

And Gunbarrel doesn't look anything like Suandstorm.

Plus Gunbarrel and Reverb were never released, right?

Warcry and Flameshot seem to be double-homages. They bare strong resemblances to Leyland and Shuttle Gunner, which makes sense those guys are recolors of Swindle and Blast Off. But they're more specifically modeled after Growl and Fireshot. This is apparent by their head sculpts, Warcry's new weapons, and the fact that their names are synonyms. Fire shot, flame blast. C'mon.

Plus as Hobbes said, Warcry and Flameblast don't include the combiner parts, and their own combiner ports are capped off.

so a fellow collector /fan would have to do some parts swapping between flameblast and blast off and warcry and swindle to give leyland and shuttle gunner their combiner abilities and also use the add on parts from the explorer munitioner sets then as well as some small bit of repainting to fully make them a modern day battle gaia

Sandstorm isn't the light brown color shown on that wiki page (it even says so), the final production was a weird cream colored tank.

Gunbarrel and Reverb were released in the most backwards way possible and were available lagely through word of mouth suring summer of 2010. BBTS got some in at a very exaggerated price.

Of course, we'll have to wait until the product is released to know for certain. It doesn't seem very "Fansproject-ish" of Fansproject to release figures without fairly major components they've had before (DIA Commander being the notable exception).

And anyway, I think that cap in the jeep is going to be removable.
