With the giant, block, animated ads inside the page itself?
Aside from the front page, which I never go to, I don't see what you're talking about.
Firefox + adblock ftw?
It's been applied across wikia. The Stexpanded wiki is getting it next and I'm not happy.
Walky has announced that the Transformers Wiki will move to tfwiki.net and/or tfwiki.info because the new ad-heavy skins are pissing him and the rest of the staff off.
And apparently their staff is far from being alone in this.
The Transformers Wiki is going to move!
Because Wikia, the current hoster, has been, simply put, a pack of unreliable bastards. They've done a good job of forcing annyoing ads into our articles (we don't mind ads, we just don't like when they screw up the layout of the articles) and enforcing several global Wiki-wide changes that have screwed up our layout, the main page and other things more than once. They've also broken a lot of promises (read: LIED) about numerous things (no ads within articles, no talking ads etc.) and tried to appease us with double-talking, apparently believing that we would eventually accept their terms if they were just able to lull us with their words enough. So a few months ago, we decided that was it, we've had enough and decided to move our Wiki somewhere else where the hoster would be more reliable. Further actions by Wikia after the decision was reached, such as a sudden auto-logout after 30 minutes, exotic browsers such as Opera no longer being able to edit the Wiki due to some new Wikia-wide settings (which could not be resolved after more than a week) and other things that have made Wikia's technical staff look like a bunch of incompetent monkeys have only helped to convince even the last remaining hesitant editors that a movie would indeed be the best thing to do.
NOW. So if you're an editor of the Transformers Wiki, you'd better stop editing articles right now until the move is completed (which we currently expect to be on Monday), lest your edits will get lost in the shuffle.
Blank Label Comics' server, the same server that also hosts Shortpacked!, the web comic by our chief admin David "It's Walky" Willis. The new addresses the Transformers Wiki will be available under are TFWiki.net and TFWiki.info.
What exactly does "move" mean?
Well, technically, it's not exactly a "move" in the classic sense, as in "complete database export from one server to another one, then deleting the backup copy at the old server". Rather, we're going to create a duplicate of the current Wiki on the new server, but Wikia will likely not allow us to simply delete the entire content of the old version on their server.
So does that mean there are going to be two Transformers Wikis now?
Technically, yes. We don't know what will happen to the old one. It's possible that other people are going to take over as admins there (worst case scenario: Users we previously banned from the Wiki because they didn't comply to our ideas of content, tone, and style). But we've launched a "scorched Earth" tactic of sorts, deleting all sorts of style and community guidelines so anyone taking over after us would have a blank slate to start from. So if you really want to take over the old Wiki, feel free to start editing, but rest assured that most of the past contributors who cared a lot for accuracy and quality are no longer going to edit the old Wiki.
Will the new Wiki still have the whole editing history for articles?
Yes. That can be exported in a database dump.
Will my existing Wikia account still work on the new Wiki?
Apparently not, since Wikia won't allow us to export user data due to privacy rights and whatnot. You will have to sign up a new account there, but if it matches your old user name, you will theoretically be able to have access to all your past contributions from the old Wiki. Just please don't try to steal someone else's user name.
Yay! Finally. I've been holding off on edits for weeks in anticipation.
We have moved!
Everyone update your bookmarks to TFWiki.info, unless you prefer a Wiki not updated by yours truly anymore!
Okay, looks like the "official" URL is TFWiki.net (DNS relocation should work now), although TFWiki.info also gets you to the same site.
Cool, I've been using tfwiki.net ever since they made it a redirect to the wikia wiki,
but once they moved it wasn't taking me to the new wiki.
Awesome, now that we're back to the monobook skin it loads faster than Wikia's wiki. Hope everybody here visits our wiki instead, since the Wikia place is going to be left to rot.
It's going to be fun to watch the wikia site degenerate into a Wikipedia style Palace of Boredom.
The majority of edits on the Wikia wiki since the move have been from us (deleting personal pages) and our admins unblocking various people who have been causing problems over the years (mostly people who violently disagreed with our tone and direction). They're free to do what they like, now.
cant get to the site.
edit.,.,.nope it was just really slow hmmm.
wait i cant search!
Any loading problems on the new Wiki are the result of Hurrican Ike.
Aaaaand now all hell breaks loose on the old Wikia Wiki.
- As a their last action, the old admins have unbanned EVERY SINGLE BANNED USER AND IP ever, thereby openly inviting all banned trolls to have fun with it.
- All admins and sysops who migrated over to the new Wiki have been depowered.
- Any references regarding the move on the old Wiki keep getting downplayed or outright removed.
And that's just the beginning.
Here's where the real fun begins.
- Someone uploaded a photo of some random guy and claimed that it depicts Chris McFeely (a longtime contributor who also migrated over to the new Wiki).
- Creationists are taking over. Any references to "evolution" on the Beast Wars show are entirely based on fiction. This needs to be EXPLICITLY pointed out and countered with a SHITLOAD of "evidence" to the contrary.
- The REAL bummer: Articles for Pat Lee and Floro Dery have been DELETED because of "libellous content". This came after an edit war between an anonymous IP (who wanted to remove any negative content) and SFH (who wanted it to remain there). Let's see how long until the article on Don Murphy gets censored too.
- Hasta la vista, humor. Let's make the Wikia Wiki just as boring as Wikipedia.
Man, this is really going to BURRRRRRN.
Meanwhile... the trolls have migrated over to the new TF Wiki and have already begun attacking us. Evidently they're so obsessed by the fact one of our members is Canadian and Walky is Walky that they'll spam and vandalise our little wiki over the nearly unmoderated Wikia TF wiki.
I guess the trolls think the your grass is greener.
