From the time I was younger, I've always enjoyed musicals. From seeing "Evita" in 8th grade to watching musicals in high school. I've always had a fancy for those who tell storyline through song. I spend most of my spare time watching musicals and when I can I go to local theater productions.

But recently, I've been watching a lot of Ziefeld and "The Gangs All here" starring the legendary Carmen Miranda.

I'm in two minds about musicals. On one hand, I enjoy things like Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog and the musical episodes of Scrubs and Buffy. On the other hand, yeah ... can't stand 'em, despite my boyfriend's best efforts to make me think otherwise.

    Definately love me some musicals.

My 3 faves have to be "Little Shop of Horrors", "The Producers" and "The Nightmare Before Christmas".

I'll watch a musical when its a movie, but honestly, you couldn't pay me to see a live-action musical.

I adore The Phantom of the Opera. But that's about it.

I've seen the following musicals (stage not movie):

    Les Miserables
    Phanton of the Opera
    Rent
    Miss Saigon
    Cats

I'd love to see more when I visit NYC again.

No! As soon as they start singing, I turn it off. Except for Billy Madison. :)

Although I do love The Phantom Of the Oprah as well, awesome music.

Yeah, I like a good musical now and then. I've often said that I wish the real world were a musical, things would be so much more interesting!

Of course, this is coming from a guy who can't sing a lick.

The best musical, IMO, is South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut.

I blame my parents for my interest in musicals. My first taste of the 50s style was "Grease" when i was 6 or 7. i liked the Doo-Wop sound and so "Grease" is still the word.

Also, i like stage dramas/theater. So that helps make some musicals more accessible for me.
    The King and I
    Hair
    The Who's Tommy
    Godspell
    Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat

i am iffy about Disney Musicals, other than a modest fascination with seeing "The Lion King".

Does Pink Floyd's The Wall count as a musical, even though you never see anyone actually sing?

I haven't seen many, and I wouldn't say I'm a musical fan, but I do enjoy watching them from time to time. Most of the ones I've seen are because of my involvement in theatre at my school. I was a techie when my school did Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, and I played Chief Sitting Bull when we did Annie Get Your Gun. I also watched the 2007 version of Hairspray before my school did it, and I've recently watched Into the Woods (because my school is doing it next year) and Oklahoma!, which I liked quite a bit.

I'm a Disneyphile, so musicals and I go hand-in-hand. It's weird for me, I love seeing stage musicals... but don't end up liking many of them. At least as far as the more recent fare goes. I think the last shows I saw that I really got into were Wicked and Avenue Q. Spamalot was funny, but it lost a lot of its edge the second time seeing it. I do want to see The Book of Mormon though. And for the record, I can't stand Cats and hate Rocky Horror Picture Show. Go figure.

When done right a movie musical can be absolutely amazing. Team America, The Music Man and Moulin Rouge! are proof of that. Stuff like Dreamgirls and the Phantom of the Opera movie made me want to eat the seat in front of me just so I could divert my attention. We need another Howard Ashman to come along and show Hollywood how to make movie musicals shine again. But then again, perhaps my avatar and I are a little biased.

I like some movie musicals (especially when they are self aware of the convention and how ridiculous it can be. South Park comes to mind). I absolutely love seeing musicals live (and living 15 minutes outside of NY helps a lot). Trying to get tickets for Book of Mormon... Hope to see that one in the next few months.

I can't stand musicals. It's partially that I don't like the singing, mostly because I hate how the plot seemingly comes to a stop so the characters can sing (had the same problem with opera). I won't watch Disney's (non-Pixar) animated films because of the musical numbers, I'll skip over musical episodes of TV shows I like and will fast forward through most isolated incidents of singing in episodes that aren't musical episodes.

The only musicals I've liked have been South Park: BLU and Team America, because the songs were humorous enough, and I did like a few of the musical numbers in the early Simpsons episodes (eg - "Monorail", "See My Vest").
