Does anyone agree with me, that the Star Wars Transformers line would have been a MUCH cooler line (and a much harder pass) if they had used Transformers characters, instead of Star Wars ones? The weakness, in my opinion, was that they wanted to keep it TF in name only, and keep the "fiction" as it were, entirely Star Wars.

If you want to do a real "worlds collide" idea, using BOTH universes is the way to do it!

Optimus Prime transforming into the Milennium Falcon?
    Starscream becoming a TIE Interceptor?
Megatron as a Star Destroyer, perhaps, or Vader's TIE?
    Hot Rod as an A-Wing?
    Republic rolling tank as Ironhide?

Unicron.... well, you KNOW how tht one will end up.

    Thoughts?

    I agree.
But, I love the Death Star Vader toy, I'd hate that to be unicron.

Eh, it could have been cool, but at the same time, it could have turned out similarly to what it is now. It's too hard to tell if it would have been any better, and even then it's all personal opinion. I think the decision to have them be Star Wars characters had to do with the licensing agreement, where it was most likely that they had to be Star Wars vehicles and characters. It doesn't help that the designers, like those that designed the Titanium line, weren't used to designing Transformers figures. Personally I don't like them, but I do like the Marvel one's we're going to be getting, though if I get any of them, I'm going to display them seperatley from my TF's, and/or use them for kitbash fodder, and turn them into TF characters.

Edit: In the end, it doesn't really matter, as there is really no way of changing it. That and they've apparently sold well.

coulda been confusing. also, i kinda like keeping them seperate-it means that Star Wars fans who may not like the Transformer characters get their own version of Transformers, and the Transformer fans get even more Transformers-i find it a win win situation.

imo they should stay separate. its cool that there are swtf because it gives a fan of both tf and sw to have the best of both worlds. but to make tf characters transform into sw vehicles is a bit off.

I like them fine as is. The no droids rule is stupid and limiting though. A transforming R2 would be pretty damn cool, why not make it? WHY?!

Good thoughts... I guess I was considering them to be "crossover" figures. Aside from them transforming, there aren't any elements of "Transformers" there. And that might sound silly, but lots of toys transform.

Besides, IMO, most of the "SW characters as robots" look rediculous. And I'm a MASSIVE SW fan.

I completely disagree with you, Cinemastique. The problem with the SWTFs was nothing to do with the fiction and everything to do with the designers not having a clue how to design a decent TF.
