Does any news exist, in any way, about an X-wing/TIE fighter reboot?

Last year, in August, LucasArts president Darrell Rodriguez hinted at the possibility of X-wing or TIE fighter returning. It was a ridiculously vague hint.

...but that was it. It's been just shy of a year and I can't find any more info on this on google or game news sites. Was Rodriguez blowing smoke, or are the Star Wars flight sims coming back?

I loved these games when I was a kid. X-wing was my first computer game.

D'oh. Well, I guess the best I can do is keep my fingers crossed. It'd be nice to see a reboot, but I'll live fine without one.

RabidYak is a walking Wiki on this stuff, I'm sure he'll pop by sooner or later to tell it how it is. Until then the Force Unleased II is coming...

Lucas Arts doesn't really seem interested in bringing back any of the old IPs. Took forever to get Sam and Max, and Max used to appear in EVERY game Lucas Arts made. I don't see Space Combat Sims getting a reboot any time soon, though, I'd love a new Freespace.

IIRC the whole stay tuned thing just ended up being a bunch of old stuff on Steam, none of which was actually an XW/TF game.

Aside from The Old Republic, 7 million people buying Force Unleashed has pretty much insured that there won't be a worthwhile Star Wars game again for a long time.

Fair 'nuff. It seems like, at least over the past 4-5 years, the LucasArts Star Wars games have focused on first person interactivity, I guess 'cuz it seems like those type of games succeed/sell well right now (re: the rest of the market - Halo, Mass Effect, etc.) No big grumps with them for going with what works.

I just miss pumping torpedoes into bulk freighters. :(

They should make a game based on the New Republic. You play as Jacen and the other two, and Luke is a BADASS.

New Republic would be much better then Rebellion era for a new XW/TF title, but i'm at a loss as to why anyone would want to run around as prepubecent Solo kids in a game.

Yes, the Jump to Lightspeed expansion. I think it is the only thing in SWG nowadays, that resembles what it did before their combat upgrades/NGE. Only problem is, you can't PVP in space for nothing. 1 hit in PVP and poof, done. It can be entertaining. But the downside to this, compared to XW/TF, you have to have the MMO to even play in space, and pay for subscription.

    and eyeballkid...Twin was right....
