i believe its tarnish and it probably depends on the climate.

Mine is still rust-free. Sait-air and humid/moist environments are enemies of this MP Megatron.

Mine didn't until I touched the feet. I think that's what causes them to tarnish, but it's no big deal to polish out.

Mine has the "rust" but it's not too bad and it doesn't really take away much from the figure which is still an awesome display piece.

He's just sat on the shelf and I wouldn't say there is anything more than normal moisture in the air. House temp is probably about 22 degrees C. I'm in the UK though - in warmer areas of the US I can imagine the heat making the problem worse.

Oh, and I got him on first release.

I cannot recall when he first came out, but that was when I got him. Ordered it from BBTS. Had him at least 3 years then, if not more. I kept him in his product box in a closet. Now I have him in my basement displayed.

I wipe down the metal parts that are known to rust with a soft cloth.

This has been covered in several different threads, but it's not rust. It's just oxidation/tarnish.
You can remove it with pretty much any tarnish remover, and it will look brand new. It does come back every 6 months - 1 year though so be prepared for multiple cleanings.

a thin coat of clear nail polish over the feet/spine metal (after you remove tarnish or before it tarnishes) will ensure that it never becomes tarnished again. Just make sure to be careful with moving parts so that they dont get stuck together.

Mines "rust" free. I live in a dry desert climate and keep him stored in my closet in his box with all my other masterpiece figures.

I have been wondering about this with the newer versions. Mine is the first release and I had to wipe of the rust a few times before giving up.

I thought that the second run of this figure had this fixed and it was only the first run that rusted. If thats not true.... I need to check on mine!

I live in a humid climate. I ordered myself a MP Megatron from TFSource around three months ago.

So far I kept it inside the package. But later on I will check it for tarnish.

Actually i just got mine so, it hasn't rusted (or tarnished) yet. I've read reports of the first release tarnishing, but i was wondering about the later releases, did takara fix the problem? or is it still affecting all releases of Megatron.

BBTS has this figure in stock, i presume it's a newer release, but does anyone know if it still tarnishes?

All i can see on mine is scratches? (doesn't look like the tarnish pictures i've seen but its a slight reddish colour?) around the edges of the foot, but it came out of the package like this.
