I just figured she was a sort of "nemesis companion". The doctor has an entourage of hangers-on, so maybe the master decided to start one. Still, she'll probably die. And probably at her husband's hands. (I'd like to be proved wrong, seeing a bit of love with someone so evil could be cool too.)
This Master is great! Anthony Ainley is "my Master" because he was my first, but John Simm is very awesome! I admit that I was seriously dreading the revival of the Master because I thought it hard to believe he could have survived what happened to him in TV Movie, but I'm so happy he's back and hope that he stays around for a while. I like that the explanation for his survival is simple as well, rather than some ridiculous overblown tale. The flashback scene was my favorite, the parts with Gallifrey and little Master. Good stuff! Can't wait for next week!
Holy crap, what an episode! While he's pretty different than the Delagado Master, he's still a great villain. Love the Laser Screwdriver crack. Though... Canibilizing the TARDIS... Next week looks good, but I'm expecting another super quick fix.
wow, the master is a real dick. Love the fact that the ending is left as a "there is no hope" moment. Also, i really liked the whole 'ghosts' thing, with the vortex manipulators. Martha's mum is a bitch Jack: "suppose i use this perception filter to walk up behind him and break his neck?" Doctor: "Now that sounds like Torchwood" Jack: "Still a good plan" I agree with Jack.
Yeah that's the difference isn't it? Doctor Who: Must think of some complex plot to stop the Master. Torchwood: Anyone got a gun?
All I have to say is WOW. That was a great episode. I can't wait to find out what those orbs really are.
and you also forgot the 'because it an adult show, lets throw the plot out of the window and have everyone see everyone else nekkid'
Amazing episode, absolutely amazing. Not even finished yet, and it's already topped the series 2 finale. Safe bet it's claimed the title of "best Master story ever" as well (although it's been a really long time since I saw any of the Delgado ones, and most of the Ainley/Davison showdowns bleed together in my memory). I'm really enjoying Simms' Master. He's far more playful than his predecessors, which matches him well against the equally rambunctious Tennant. And this three-parter has everything that makes the Master great: the Doctor up against an equal genius who's managed to outmaneuver him, the Master seemingly triumphant, and one episode left to pull out a victory. I can't wait to see how this one ends. The only disappointment (aside from the fact that after next week we'll have to wait until December for the next episode) is that we'll likely be losing Jack to Torchwood again once this is all over.
Well he was going to be in series two, but due to scheduling conflicts while filming Torchwood, he wasn't able to be. So they postponed him till season 3
i watched the repeat earliar, and i wonder how a hundred years of aging was able to age the doc so much? the first doctor was 450 years old apparently, and he looks younger than retirement home tennant.
I thought of the same thing, my best guess if it's not an outright plot hole is that it was 100 years per second.
By this point though, the first doctor was 450 (Im taking your word for it), since then, hes had 9 regenerations, and racked up another 450 years or so. Thats at least 50 years for each regeneration. Each regeneration must age seperately, and thats over a long time, so its possible regeneration keeps a timelord looking the same because it keeps working over 50 years, but Tennants doctor has aged 100 years in a few seconds, no regeneration could deal with that Im sure. (its late, this made a lot more sense inside my head)
