I use to collect on-screen characters only, but since the ROTF line I've really expanded pass on-screen to much more. I don't want to limit myself and there are terrific figures that do not appear in any fiction. DOTM Skyhammer is a perfect example.
I will buy either, but I desire the onscreen characters more. I will probably buy TFP Hot Shot because his colors make the mold look decent. That mold does not work for Bumblebee, in my opinion.
I buy what looks cool, and do end up getting a lot of off-screen characters as a result. I try to let the toy justify it's own purchase and not the tie-in media. Don't want to buy a crap toy just to represent a favorite character.
That's exactly what I do. Nowadays it's too expensive to buy everything I think looks remotely cool. I only make exceptions in extreme case, or in a line like classics where there is not show to go with it.
Generally, no. I did preorder Takara's RiD Skywarp though. I HOPE he's in the show, but somehow I don't think he is. Kind of the exception to the rule, though. I might buy third party or official CHUG versions of offscreen G1 characters, though, like the deluxe Insecticons or something. But generally, no I wouldn't.
Pretty much this, then when I thin my collections, off screeners go first, unless there just so awesome I can't part with em.
No, I only go for what I like and often many times those figures happenes to be non show/movie characters. I take characters like ROTF Skystalker, DOTM Air Hammer, BW TM2 Spittor over countless versions of the same characters showing up over and over.
I purchase what I like. This is of course after reading/watching reviews (at least two of each). My completist days have been done since Armada/Energon. For the most part character and alternate mode are secondary. I display and buy Transformers for the robot mode.
I rarely watch TF media, so it's typically a non issue for me. However I can say a lot of the time I like the toys of characters who aren't in the tv show more than characters who are.
If the toy is good, I'll get em - onscreen or not. If the toy is bad, they ouht to be onscreen to pique my interest. I don't have any rules, really. Just my feelings at the time. I like offscreen characters, because it makes the setting feel like a place, rather than a show. There are other guys doing other stuff off somewhere else.
I buy based of what I get from the figure do I get a character I like? Do I like his style? Do I think I could repaint it into someone else? Is the price okay for what I get? I don't care if they were onscreen or not I decide what's worth my money
For the movies, prettymuch only onscreen characters. I don't watch cartoons, so as far as lines like Animated and Prime, I couldnt even tell you who is in the show and who is not. In those lines, I will buy everything deluxe and above.
Primarilly, yes. My main collection will allways be that of G1 screen accurate toys, but I also collect other TF's I find cool - now these are for the most part featured in a tv series, but it's not a requirement, like my lucky draw figures.
I don't really, unless the toy has some good reason to get it, i.e. Ironhide is epic, sometimes I just need more of one faction, etc.
