I think It's one of the best animes I've seen so far, I just love the satire and exageration of japanese life style and all the other things they do, I just started watching it and I'm a fan allready.

Man, that show is annoying and addictive.

I saw it a few years ago. Its a good show, but sometimes the randomness got old. I wouldn't mind watching it again though, its been a while.

I really enjoyed it and the little cultural notes on the DVDs really helps you enjoy it just a little bit more. Every scene with Pedro had me laughing.

Yeah, I liked the note option. I used it the second time through. It confirmed a few things I thought I got, and gave me a bit more insight in to things I didn't.

I really like Excel Saga. Very unique and not for everyone, but I found it funny and a blast to watch. Nabeshin was great and Ilpalazzo's dating sim always cracks me up, "Put It In".

I have it on DVD, though I might have to look for the "cultural notes" thing. I just understood the anime as meta-humor about anime itself.

I watched through the entire series about 5 or 6 years ago, insanely absurd and hilarious.

My favorite episode is where they made fun of Americans drawing manga.

To be honest when it first came out on DVD I absolutely loved the first disk, watched it a ton of times and laughed my ass off. However as soon as I saw the second DVD I found it was progressively less funny as it went on to the point were it was not funny at all.

yeah, the quality goes down pretty rapidly.

the final episode is just insane though. made me say "what the fuck did I just watch" when it was over.

I've only read through the first volume so far, but the insanity is definitely less frantic and over the top (but still very insane) than the anime adaptation, and there seems to be much more of the social commentary humor. Thematically, it's almost like Japanese style South Park, minus most of the scatological humor. The story is similar so far, but not the same as the anime, and plot devices involving Nabeshin (the afro-sporting anime director) are not present, obviously. The anime is sorta like the ADHD version.

There is a HUGE difference. All the jokes are references to manga, manga production, and manga culture.

Excel Saga is one of those animes that relies a lot on parody and cultural refs for maximum enjoyment. If you havent watched a lot of anime, it's not going to be as funny. Project A-ko is similar in that regard (If not anywhere near as over the top)

The 'pop up' notes help, but only to a point.
