I refer, of course, to the flashing eye that made up DOTM’s title sequence. Are we to treat it as canonical, or just as part of the title?

I think it was just part of the title, you know, to make it look flashy but also hint his importance in the plot.

I used to wonder about this a lot and figured he must've been awakened by Neil & Buzz klutzing around and then grabbed a couple pillars before re-sealing the crash vault and going back into stasis lock.

But then I realized he already had the pillars with him when Neil & Buzz were there and that the crash vault wasn't really "open" in the beginning, the camera just swooped in between its "teeth."

Which leaves us with it pretty much just being an opening title sequence which takes a GREAT DEAL of liberty with the scene, unfortunately.

Symbolically, at least, it IS a nice touch...considering just how much we get to know about the inner workings of Sentinel's mind in the course of the rest of the movie and all.

It just would have been nice if the eye-flashes and his mind booting back up weren't just in make-believe opening-title fantasyland but actually had some bearing on the plot itself, too.

It's a bit confusing as is.

I think it was just a reflex, kinda like those guys in comma, who sometimes move their heads in a random movement.

No, I don't think Sentinel woke up while inside the Ark. Like Overlord Balder said, it was probably just a reflex. Or just done as part of the title.
