yes. The lights add ambience, and actually save me some money on the electric bill as twinkle lights are cheaper than 60 watt bulbs

Mine were down on Dec. 31st. We're in the middle of a move and we needed to get everything down and out of the way early so we could start packing. There's a tiny USB tree on top of the computer desk that's up as my fiancee's family has a tradition of leaving one tree up unil Chinese new year (which is monday).

Nope. I once had a friend in High School that didn't take his down until June one year. He said that "they just never got around to it".

Christmas of 2007 I put lights around the perimeter of the living room ceiling. About 10 days after Christmas I took everything else down, but kept the ceiling lights because I found that they make incredibly nice ambient lighting. During last year, I kept them up but eventually a strand went out (it was comprised of 3), so at the start of December I actually took all the old ones down and replaced them exactly the same way, and they will stay there all year.

I took my decorations down on Dec. 27th. I never wait until after New Years to take them down. But I was told it is bad luck to take down your Christmas decorations before New Years.

About the strings of clear lights, you can use those all year round.

My neighbors on my sides still do. We didn't put any up this year, my wife wasn't feeling it due to lack of finances to do what we usually do for the family. When we do put stuff up its down New Year's day.

Mine came down the day after New Years. However the string all around the sides of the ceiling we used to hang cards on is still there. I remember last year the string stayed up for three months. It wouldn't be so bad but this year the string is purple and the ceiling is white so it doesn't look good. :p
As for the actual decorations, they're still sitting boxed at the end of the room because I hate having to haul them up into the attic and always put that task off for as long as possible.

I took mine down last week. I was gone for two weeks over Christmas, so it felt wrong to just tear them down as soon as I got home. That and my new cat finally started taking an interest in them, especially in the mini-Nativity scenes.

I've been lax in putting my pictures back on the walls, tho.
