I like both, but the G1 voice is notoriously difficult to process the right way which is why, IMO, every attempt to replicate it since G1 has sounded incomprehensible or, otherwise, like shit.

In either case, I thought the unprocessed Dr. Claw voice in the movie was downright awesome and VERY Soundwave. I would have liked a little processing in the background (similar to Barricade in the first movie) but loved it all the same.

Vocoder. Dr. Claw's voice isn't unique or distinctive enough to my ears.

I like the vocoder voice. Much scarier back in 1984 when voice synthesizer technology wasn't as prevalent or complex as it is today but now it's just part of his 'thing', I think.

You know, honestly, I can't comprehend, at all, why they went to the trouble of getting Welker and then not flanging the voice.

    It boggles my mind.

I prefer the unaltered voice, as the vocoder effect in modern usage tends to be significantly overdone and makes the character virtually incomprehensible (ie - Animated Soundwave). And, TBH, I wouldn't have known the unaltered voice was Dr Claw if it wasn't brought up here every damn time Soundwave is mentioned, seeing as I haven't seen Inspector Gadget at all in roughly 2 decades.

And I could really care less about them using a "Ravage - eject" line. I enjoy the movies just fine without that fanwanky crap thrown in.

its not difficult to process at all, its just you need a base voice that sounds like dr claw in order for it to sound like the g1 version...what everone fails to realize is that you cant just use your normal talking voice and expect to get the same effect. Vocoding takes the tones of your voice and mixes it with synthetic tones.

i know, the whole POINT for welker was for the iconic voice

Vocoder. As is, the Dr. Claw voice is too similar to what Megatron and The Fallen sounded like. I know those two aren't as monotone, but still, they're all part of the evil growly voice brigade. Starscream's voice had a similar delivery too, just at a higher pitch. It would've been nice to have one standing out a little more. I guess you had Jetfire and Wheelie for that, but eh, you know, they defected. I guess

Seconded or thirded or whatever. I still prefer the vocoder for nostalgic reasons, but it was nice to actually understand what the hell he was saying for once. At this point I'd be annoyed if they went to the vocoder for a third film; I prefer consistency.

I do admit though, hearing Dr. Claw in the theatres the first time was rather jarring.

I don't dislike the Dr. Claw voice but the Vocoder would have been way way way cooler and more of the Soundwave feel.

I rather liked someone esle's idea that Soundwave should have been the Vocoder voice and the Dr. Claw voice should have been the Fallen.

    Vocoder.

Absolutely no reason why the DVD version can't have both...

Vocoded. More badass than the cartoon though. Likely a combo of both. That would have been the best.

I thought they were both fine.

I mean, just the fact that it's Welker made it ok for me.

Dr. Claw + Soundwave = Dr. Soundwave

PURE AWSOMENESS! It was a brilliant error in G1. XD

    Vocoded.
Their was a point during the movie I leaned over to my roommate and said 'I'll get you next time Gadget.'

Both are pretty good, but I'd have to go for either vocoder or Dr. Claw.

Oh, forget it: if you ask me, it's a draw.

First: Wha? Videogame Soundwave isn't Frank Welker? Are you sure?

Second: I read spoilers before I saw the movie that Soundwave had an unprocessed voice. I knew for decades (ever since G1's handful of unprocessed moments) that Soundwave's base voice was Dr. Claw, then processed, so I wasn't exactly shocked that Soundwave sounded like Dr. Claw.

I was appalled when I read the news about ROTF Soundwave's voice.

I went into the movie expecting to hate Soundwave's voice. But you know what? I LOVED IT. Would I have loved the vocoded voice? OF COURSE. But something about Soundwave's scenes, his actions, etc, just made that voice WORK for movie Soundwave.

And I highly doubt Bay will fix it or give us both options on the DVD. I don't think Bay has ever changed a theatrical cut for a non-director's cut DVD. He didn't bother fixing the Devastator subtitle, and I doubt he'll fix the voice. The commentary will probably have something like, "I couldn't go through all the trouble of getting Frank Welker and then processing his voice out of recognition."

^^^ QUOTED...FOR...TRUTH. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for G1 vocorder Soundwave, and at first, I was disappointed when I heard that he wouldn't have the vocorder, but when I heard his Dr. Claw voice in the movie for the first time, and I can't even begin to describe how hard-core evil it sounded. I loved it! But please, give the guy his robot mode next time. (Besides, does it really matter whether or not he had the vocorder? It was still Frank Welker we were hearing, for god's sake! Isn't that enough?!)
