I'm pretty certain he's received generally positive comments thus far.

I still think his altmode is an incoherent mess.

I have no issues with the alt mode. Cybertronian designs are some of my favorites, and besides who's going to keep him in alt mode on their display shelf?
Well, I'll have one in alt and one in bot, but that's different.

Aesthetically, if you can get over the fact that he deosn't look like his original design, the new Shockwave is a beast. Moreso than the Fallen, Shockwave has a creep factor that actually makes him seem threatening.

It is a pretty good design. It really looks powerful and alien, the head design looks good, he has enough elements to remain recognizable...It's not perfect, though. The pseudo-organic look is a bit jarring and clashes with his logical and almost robotic personality, and I miss the chest reactor. It could have made him more visually striking. But asides from those nitpicks, I dig it.

BTW, I think that a perfect Shockwave would have been Mitgas' take on him, with slightly longer (but still thick) legs and the movie version's arms (especially that AWESOME cannon):

A mode can be Cybertronian without looking like an incoherent mess.

Good point, but the examples you have are more blocky and formed than movie-verse characters are. Part of the movie-verse (I REFUSE to call them Bay-formers- stupid name) aesthetic is to have them as nearly techno-organic, so the plates and ribs and such work well in an overall design.

I also agree about mitgas' design. His is one of the best Shockwave re-imaginings out there. Too bad he never got around to finishing the alt mode.

I would like to note that we haven't properly seen Shockwave's altmode yet. For all we know, the vehicle form of the toy could be as 'accurate' as leader Megatron's was, with the actual film version looking a lot better.

Why are you going by the toy?Megatron,Jazz, and many others have weird robot/vehicle modes, but in the movie the tank for megs and bot for jazz looked great.

I like the new shocky. :)

Some of the Movie-verse designs have gone totally overboard in terms of techno-organicity, though.

I'm going by the toy because the toys are my principal focus. Face it, the toys are inevitably going to be a collector's definitive representation of on-screen characters.

When I heard that Shockwave was going to be featured in DOTM, I was pumped for his toy. Unfortunately, the altmode pretty much guarantees that I won't be picking him up.

I prefer a rectangular weapon barrel (as seen in the Rising Storm prequel) than the round one. The round barrel is too....conventional.

It's okay just a bit plain I don't know why but he doesn't stand out. I wanted a main villain with a face if you know what I mean.

I love it so far. Probably the best design of the Decepticon leaders in the trilogy.
