Has there ever been a TF toy that you really weren't all that interested in, but you bought it just because everyone is ranting & raving over it, or just because it's tough to find in stores?

I did this yesterday with Animated Arcee. I really have no interest in this toy, but since she's been out I've only seen her twice in stores and read on sightings boards how people still can't find her.

    Does anyone else do this?

I bought the Ice cream Twins because of the hype. Great as they are, they just sit there now...

    Also, Animated Shockwave.

Yes, most of the TFTM toys. Blackout being the frontrunner.

But it was a mix of me getting back into the transformers with the classics and alternators selection being so slim and the drought hype.

ROTF Breakaway. Everybody was raving about him, so I picked him up. Decent enough toy, especialy once you sand down those little tabs on his "chin" that prevent him from looking to the side. But after I'd owned him for a while, I don't pick him up too much anymore. At least he looks good on display.

No I haven't bought a TF just because of other people's hype or rarity.

I wasn't planning on getting ROTF Lockdown, but after seeing him appear in some of the Funnies and hear how awesome it was from the people who have him, I caved in and bought him.

That's basically the first time I ever bought a toy because of the hype it was receiving.

All the ROTF toys I had bought.... Yeah, ROTF mania is simply irresistable. But once the hype died, so does the interest.

All those ROTF toys that I have are still in MISB condition! ...and I'm not an MISB collector.

Several of the nonmovie characters that have a lot of hype fall into this category for me.

Same here, with all those pics up in the photo threads. I ended up buying Brawn the same way too, which basically led me to buy that entire wave...

Not as far as I know. I do seem to buy more figures than I intend to, but I don't think it's from any hype. I just like Transformers and when I see a new figure I suddenly really want it, even the ones with bad review press.

    This.

But I might get a figure based on a friend's recommendation. But that, to me, is different than buying based on hype.

The only figure I can think of is Ejector, and I don't regret it.

I purchased HA Bumblebee because of all the hype and completely regretted it! I sold him to someone here not too long after, though.

I did also buy Mindwipe and Skystalker but it wasn't so much hype as withdrawal. They're still MISB and I haven't decided it I'm going to keep or return them.

You know, I really like Skystalker and think that he's well worth the purchase. Mindwipe is also a cool figure, but I don't think it would bother me if he weren't in my collection. I'd probably keep the little guy and send the big guy back!
