this fits what i was gonna say perfectly first and foremost they are toys but if you collect them they are also collectables so ican't vote as there is no both option

I'm 33, and I consider all TFs to be toys. Collectibles is just code for expensive, low-run toys.

To me it depends. My G1s are collectibles, but a lot of the newer ones I would consider toys because I'll let my nephew play with them.

I consder the actual, "on-the-retail-shelf" TF figures as toys that I just so happen to collect. Collectibles are just things that serve little more point than simply being collected in order to be enjoyed, but you can have fun with only just one TF. Even if it's Mudflap from the Ice Cream Truck set.

Children's toys, upon which most of us place collectible value.

The problems begin when we start forgetting the first part.

Anything older than the bayverse toys are collectibles to me. Even though I play with them. I am 31 yrs old.

I'm 31 and to me they're collectibles. Yes, I know they're meant as toys, but to me they're just too expensive to just play with and risk all those joints getting loose etc etc.

But on the otherhand.... I'm not putting them in a glass cabinet either.....yet...

I just put 'em in a (slightly) different pose once in a while.

Both, though I veer more towards toys.

I tend to view them as collectibles but also know they are meant and marketed as toys.

Well, they are toys. I don't think there is any way around that. But because they mean so much to me I view them as collectibles.

for me it depends on what it is. Masterpeice are collectibles to me, and other REALLY expensive limited things (like Lucky Draws), anything I buy at retail is a toy

They're collectibles in my mind, but sometimes I can't resist the temptation to play with them a bit, thus turning into toys.

they are obviously both. I enjoy them as toys, and I enjoy collecting them. I don't view them as an investment, or expect them to appreciate in value, but I know they're worth holding onto, as they'll always have a certain resale value if I were ever stuck for cash.

I have always preferred humble toys to overpriced high-end collectibles. I don't collect resin statues, and some of my deluxe toys I prefer over my masterpieces.

of the people who consider the regular transformers to be collectables rather than toys, would you consider them being a 'toy' to have negative connotations? that it somehow trivialises a hobby you take seriously?

the regular lines are - and they will never not be - toys, however they can be collectable aswell. don't get bogged down in the semantics of what constitutes a 'collectable' vs 'toy' and enjoy them on their own merits.

That's my kind of line between the two as well.

I think that for me, they're fun toys to collect and pose. I do not look forward to the day I purchase an expensive MISB toy and face the dilemma of opening it or not :D .

Some may well be "collectables" but I voted "toys" anyway, because "collectables" just sounds too pretentious.
