Hasbro often repaints figures and rerelease them, do you buy em?
I buy a lot of them.
I've bought repaints, but the only Toys that I have that share the same mold are my ROTF LDR and my Battle Hooks Prime.
I bought the Rage Over Cybertron set because I thought I'd never get the originals. Then I did thanks to TFW.
It really depends on the toy and the character. I picked up WFC Cliff, and am happy with him. Generally any of the seekers i'll buy.
Only if I like the look of it.
No, I buy redecos. They aren't called repaints.
Only if its a new character.
A repaint with a different head can work really well, like Universe Sunstreaker and Sideswipe.
I usually don't buy the same mold twice, once I figure out the transformation there isn't much point in getting the same "puzzle" again. Cyberverse has been an exception, though, as they are relatively cheap (can't argue with BOGOfrees!) and the "new hat" makes up a sizable portion of the full toy, though I only keep one version of the actual Transformer.
There's also times where I've passed on a mold only to buy a repaint of it down the road (i.e. RotF Thrust instead of Breakaway), though that's not quite the same thing.
The only time I've bought multiple repaints of a mold and kept them all is RotF Skystalker/Sunspot -- I just love that mold.
They have to be retools or something
depends if it is a valued character, or a remold. New heads are great.
Yes, but not all of them. It's an easy way to troop build without buying multiples of the same exact toy.
I have a "No repaints" rule, but if I don't have the original mold or broke the original I had, then I'll buy the repaint.
I actually will buy repaints of good molds before buying a crappy mold a first time.
Hasbro is starting to get on the retool train with lots of characters having a second head planned from the beginning. Completely changes this questions.
And for anyone who wonders at the anal-yticalness of some people's answers. Repaints means that the paint is changed but the plastic underneath is the same color. Whereas redecos uses a different plastic base color. A lot of people tend to use the term repaint in place of redeco.
If it represents a new character, yes!
If it's a good figure, I buy it. If it's a good repaint, I buy it. If it's pointless, no.
Really depends. As a rule, no, but some characters (Seekers, Sweeps, Junkions, Battle Chargers) should be repaints.
Others don't necessarily have to be (the datuns, the lambos, Thunderwing/Skyshadow, Prime/Magnus) but I accept them as an inevitability. Others that make less sense like Straxus/Skullgrin and Tracks/Wheeljack drive me nuts and I seek alternatives where I can (Custom Skullgrin and Prime Wheeljack in those cases).
Same-character repaints, no. Never.
All the time. If its a different character then I won't stop. I have 20+ seekers.
I also troop build botcon sharkticons, rts wreckgars, generation scourges and CHMS air warriors.
The only exception in my (admittedly small collection) is the classics seeker mold. I've have 4 of those bad boys but would have 6 if I could.
