From time to time, I've seen "prototype" listed in an item description. I'm in the same boat as you, not having a clue whether or not it's true, so I've stayed away. But I'd be interested to hear the answer from a conceptual standpoint.

Not sure on those but there are "blanks" (no color or paint) sold as prototypes. The most known, to me, is the g1 seeker body. They aren't true prototypes, just raw KOs.

The scratch-marked number code on the leg makes it look legit. Those are presumably used for tracking down leaks. Compare this to Alternators Rumble at BotCon 2006.

I assume the "H" is for "Hasbro"?

They make levels of prototypes from a resin rough to a first shot. If any adjustments are made then there are even more.

Didn't know that, thanks. Still have to wonder how the seller gets there hands on so many prototypes. Looking at there ebay feedback, anyone feedback from someone buying prototypes has been positive, which is a good sign.

I see some of the parts were molded in red and yellow plastic, but I also see what appears to be a paint test, which is something that's somewhat common on prototypes. I don't know of a KO Animated Leader Megatron...at least one that looks like that. It's possible that it could be a prototype.

Rose is a legit seller you can trust that auction. We seen a similar prototype in the same colors but it did not have the black paint on it, they often remove the heads or deface the heads with a soldering iron so that collectors won't want to purchase them.

looks like a test shot to me.
From the amount of resin prototypes they're selling they either work fo hasbro or have broken into their storage

Yeah, there's never just one prototype per toys. There's a few resin hardcopies/gray models, and a lot more test shots, pre-production samples etc.

That is an incredible collection of prototypes there. $1,600 for the packaged BB seems a little steep to me, but then again I guess I'm just tired of seeing BB everywhere I go :lol
