It's just a thought that occurred to me....in the Shattered Glass timeline, Hot Rod has 'grown' a moustache, and there are other examples such as Alpha Trion, Scourge, Wreck-Gar, etc.

Do they have to shave daily to keep away the metallic fuzz?! :inquisiti

And, are Soundwave & Optimus really hiding big massive beards under their faceplates?!

Well, according to Optimus Prime in the story Dungeons & Dinobots, Rodimus could have a use for the buzzsaw hand attachment "Look on the bright sideā€¦ perhaps you can use your new attachment to remove that ridiculous thing from your face."

    Uh. No.

I like to think that "facial hair" on TFs is really no different than any of the other myriad facial or head design variations (visors, grills, plates, nozzles, vents, etc) designed, chosen or modified based on the tastes of that particular TF, their designer, and the requirements of facial differentiation for recognition purposes.

After all, not all "old" TFs have beards, and not all bearded TFs are old.

Also, TF's are designed by humans, so we tend to give them recognizable traits. :p

I like to think of them as Wooly Willies: the magnetic hair toys we're all familiar with, but didn't really know the name of. The way I like to see it is that whatever goes on inside their heads is somehow magnetic, and throughout the course of a transformer's day, a bunch of crap just gets stuck there. They then have the option of just wiping it off or letting it stay in a sweet fashion. When we see a transformer with a big fuzzy afro, we'll know for sure.

I vote for a 1970s style muscle car who turns into a robot with an afro in Universe.

Ah, in the Cartoon canon, yes... but even then, only the FIRST Transformers. After that, Transformers were designing and redesigning themselves for millions of years.

    Booyah! :D
