In all seriousness, OP, those two crotches you have circled don't really resemble each other. At all. One's pointy and one's not. Optimus, Sentinel, The Fallen and the other ancient Primes all have different "codpieces". (My friend even pointed out "LOL THEY HAVE DICKS!" when we say the 'Robot Heaven' scene in RotF   ).

Now, as Aernaroth pointed out, Optimus and Sentinel share certain design elements, like most notably, THEIR HELMET.

So, to answer your question: NO, THEY DO NOT HAVE CERTAIN CROTCH PIECES FOR A REASON.

 

Yes they have different crotch pieces. They also have differently styled shoulders, feet, and chests.One happens to be "blockier" overall than the other and the other "pointy". The difference is not just in their *ahem* codpieces.

Erm, the fact that they're different pretty much null and voids this notion of "Prime Crotches" right off the bat... if they were exactly the same, then you might be on to something, but they're different! I mean... why not wonder about why Mudflap and Ratchet's faces were different and what does THAT mean!

I mean devastator clearly has testicles, so we know that mechanical genitals must exist in Bay's universe. Maybe we should just ask Bay directly why he decided that Optimus needed flat/square 'crotch' piece and why sentinel's was pointy? We might even get an answer!!!
