No. they're usually quite intrigued. If they take the piss at first, they normally come back and ask me how much the boxed G1 Optimus in their loft is worth, or whatever.

Nope. My wife is perfectly happy with me collecting. She says "much better than drugs or being at the bar."

 

I get told to grow up a lot, but it's more for watching cartoons than buying toys. Which I find weird.

If I chose to spend Saturday night re-organising my Animated collection to better display my Botcon stuff then so be it, that is my choice. Of course, making Hot Rod hold Arcee in a "just married" pose was a little much.

Thankfully, no. I don't have this particular problem. I imagine that if I did, my reply would be something along the lines of "Because my money would be so much better spent on cigarettes and liquor?"

This thread reminds me of something that was posted at the joecustoms.com forum, the other day. Standing in line at the checkout, the guy hears "Little old to still be playing with toys, aren't you?" He turned around, took one look at the guy who said it, and "This coming from the man covered in Star Wars tattoos?"

I do find myself a little embarrassed if I have clients over (I work from home) and they spot something, but I've never met anyone who has taken the mickey (openly at least).

I guess we're just part of a generation that hasn't really had to grow up. Since I'm recently single again, I have become a bit more sensitive about it though ><

 

My step dad and younger brother do. I just tell 'em to 'fuck off' every time.

Nope. My mom tells me its a waste of money and my friends are all fine with it. I told somebody to grow up because, for the age of 30, he still finger points and makes childish accusations in an argument. It makes collecting more mature in this case.

 

nope, last one that did was my ex, she was passed out drunk on the couch when i came home from work at 3:30 everyday for a while at the end though, so i couldn't take her seriously

No. My parents don't know I still collect toys. My girlfriend understands that it's a hobby. My friends all think it's cool, some even pick up toys every so often themselves. And my co-workers don't think anything of it other than a hobby, I get my job done, and I can enjoy a good beer with them when the time comes.

Never had a problem with anyone telling me to grow up or anything.

 

Only by my Grandmother. But it isn't "YOU ARE PLAYING WITH TOYS" Its "YOU ARE TAKING THEM OUT OF THE BOX YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO SELL THEM IN 10 YEARS".
