A guy at work has a store on eBay and sells Hot Wheels cars. I guess he is always looking for stuff he can sell on eBay to make a few bucks. He said he goes to Wal-Mart 3 or 4 times a week. Today, something he said caught my attention....

he said he sold a few Transformers. He then told me he had just sold a police car (Barricade), a 70s Bumblebee and a concept camaro Bumblebee and had 3 or 4 more to sell. Immediately, my internal alarm was going off. "This is a lowlife F#$&*ing scalper!" I couldn't wait to get home and check his store. After coming home, I saw he has more of them up for sale but they're only BIN's of $15 or so...After the fees, he barely profits....I guess he isn't a textbook example, but he isn't a collector I know and he's out there buying up our toys before we can find them...what do you guys think?

Yeah at $15 a pop he really isnt a hardcore scalper. He is still selling them at a price that isnt to high and like you said he really isnt making a profit.

Ask him if he'll hook you up with hot items at cost....then you'll really know.

lol better rally together the local militia and take this nefarious criminal down BEFORE he becomes a hardcore scalper.... there should be a maandatory registry for known scalpers, like sex offenders and child molestors... no no im being serious really i am.

I say get a taser on him pronto. Little scalpers grow into big ones! Seriously though how much does he mark up his hot wheels? He's got to be making some kind of profit somewhere or it wouldn't make sense to keep doing it.

The thread title is so ominous..."Are you working with a serial killer?" "Is your boss a pedophile?"

Anyways, he's reselling toys, but seeing as how he's not making any real money on it--hell, factor in his time and gas and I suspect he's losing money with a BiN of $15--I don't see how he's a scalper. An idiot, maybe. But not a scalper.

If he ships worldwide i'd call him a helper and not a scalper. Anyway he rarely makes any profit and it could just be he wants to make the toys available to all than just people in the local area. The minor profit might only be to cover the gas bill.

Two words. 'Shipping' and 'handling.' That's where the big money is.

How is this guy not a scalper? Pretty much all of the Movie deluxes have a buy it now around that price. He isn't charging $15 because he's a swell guy, he's charging it because it's what he can get, and most of his profit is probably coming from shipping.

Maybe, but there are worse things that he could be doing.

    Scalpers = bad.
Witch-hunt for scalpers = even worse.

Sir Bedevere: There are ways of telling whether she is a scalper.
Peasant 1: Are there? Oh well, tell us.
Sir Bedevere: Tell me. What do you do with scalpers?
    Peasant 1: Burn them.
Sir Bedevere: And what do you burn, apart from scalpers?
    Peasant 1: More scalpers.
    Peasant 2: Wood.
Sir Bedevere: Good. Now, why do scalpers burn?
Peasant 3: ...because they're made of... wood?
Sir Bedevere: Good. So how do you tell whether she is made of wood?
Peasant 1: Build a bridge out of her.
Sir Bedevere: But can you not also build bridges out of stone?
    Peasant 1: Oh yeah.
Sir Bedevere: Does wood sink in water?
Peasant 1: No, no, it floats!... It floats! Throw her into the pond!
Sir Bedevere: No, no. What else floats in water?
    Peasant 1: Bread.
    Peasant 2: Apples.
    Peasant 3: Very small rocks.
    Peasant 1: Cider.
    Peasant 2: Gravy.
    Peasant 3: Cherries.
    Peasant 1: Mud.
    Peasant 2: Churches.
    Peasant 3: Lead! Lead!
    King Arthur: A Duck.
    Sir Bedevere: ...Exactly. So, logically...
Peasant 1: If she weighed the same as a duck... she's made of wood.
    Sir Bedevere: And therefore...
    Peasant 2: ...A scalper!

Hmm. It's a free country and he can do what he wants. Like you said... he's barely making a profit anyways so maybe he does it like many people on these boards just for a little extra cash.

As for the comment about him picking up our toys before we can find them... well our fellow collectors do that every day too now don't they... and kids... and parents of kids... maybe we should get all the local militias together to get the kids, there parents and the fellow fans too. :rolleyes2

Like it or not, retail is first come and first serve in this wonderful capitalist driven nation of ours.
