I may be coming into possession of a metal shelf for free and I am wondering it would be safe to display my figures on it or would the metal cause some undesirable issues and I need to line the shelves with something.

any help would be gratefully accepted

As long as the shelf isn't rusty or tarnished, I don't think there would be any problems. I've been displaying my tfs on metal shelves for years and it hasn't seemed to hurt them.

I suppose you could put down a sheet of thin wood or plastic if it worries you.

I can't really imagine the metal would affect toys in general unless somehow you should happen to get an electrical current connected. House struck by lightning? Then again you probably have worse problems to worry about if that happens.

As long as the metal doesn't get too hot during the hot summer days, it should be good. As blunghole said you could always get some quarter inch plywood to line the shelves with.

Shouldnt be an issue if the metal is in good condition and designed to bear the weight of your collection.

If you don't like the look of the bare metal touching your transformers, you could always paint it / cover it with something like paper, cloth, etc.

It wasn't the look of it just wanted to be sure it wouldn't cause damage to them
