Since this wasn't about customizing, i didn't put this in the Radicons, but feel free to move it there if i am mistaken...

I want to display some of my TFs in alt mode on stands- the choppers and jets- but the stands that are available at BBTS seemed too pricey (saw a set for llike 12-15 bucks each and they only lift the object a couple inches) to justify buying them.
i was wondering about other inexpensive options for stands that will give my TFs the look of being in flight. I wouldn't mind building something.
i had thought about building something to at least allow me to put Unicron in Alt mode, so i can have him orbiting Primus.

    any thoughts or suggestions?

The unicron.com unicron stand is real value for money! try and get that one.

As for other types of display stand I use old clear cassette tape cases and CD jewelcases to build up height. Glass containers with the labels removed work too!

Stands are easy to make. I made one one time not even planning to. I had some leftover plastic from a car tag I was making and came up with it. It is nothing more than plastic with a hole drilled through it with a knitting needle through with some jbweld as the glue. You would have to do slightly diffrent to get something that will display alt mode as mine does bot mode. Here is a pic of the results.

What about a clear Gundam Action Base? The interchangable heads should hoold most tf's. Only minor mods for some tf's needed.

Glad you like it. I wouldn't have even thought to do it if I didn't already have knitting needles around as back scratchers. The plastic is 1/8 inch mirrored that I got from a local plastics shop. You will need to counter sink the bottom to give a flat base.

Ok, I hope this helps. I found myself in your same situation not too long ago.I bought some of the "hercules" nail (the ones you don't hammer, you just stick them in the wall and turn). They hold a lot actually, I have some jets "flying" down my wall and Unicron coming out of the wall! I was actaully grocery shopping and when we were in the fruits and veggies section I saw a holder for bananas, and it actually worked. They are cheap, but can hold some weight. I am currently rearranging my display, but when it is done I will post pics...

Ill try to post some pics later. But I actually came across a large box of doll stands. Which work great for figures.

I just use clear card boxes to elevate some of my figures. However you can't get any dynamic flying poses.

    dag nab it...

I may try the Hercules Nails when i move to a permanent place.
But in the meantime i discovered a really cheap, but "hell, it works" solution by accident.
I was drinking milk and after i rinsed my glass...i had an idea.

I have a complete set of these style plastic glasses.

I first tried it on a new G.I. Joe X-30 (at the time didn't have any TF's in Alt Mode):

On a white surface, the glass just seems to disappear.

Because i was rushing to get pics, i just used the small glass for these examples, but with a larger one for the X-30 and my other Joe-aircraft, it would be extremely stable.

The interesting thing is i won't be using these glasses.
I have to wait until the weekend, but i am going to Michael's or some Kitchen/party supply store for the really cheap plastic cocktail/Margarita glasses that i can buy individually, not by the dozen. Something with a wide opening at the top, narrow shaft and a flat bottom.

Something like this (inverted of course):

    So....whadya think?
oh please post pics of yer ideas- Especially that Wall mounted Unicron, mykticon!

I think glasses and cups take up too much display space.

I use Meccano. Unfortunately, I haven't yet bought enough to do all the stuff I want with it :)

Try an Ebay search for "Acrylic Risers". They're not super expensive and they display really nicely
