After giving it some thought, and letting myself settle down from freak out-mode, I think the biggest reason right now as to why this turns off a lot of people is because of just the image this creates to have Disney associated with Marvel. I think it will kind of make it harder now for grown comic book readers to defend that reading comic books isn't just a kids when your favorite line is owned by Disney. DC sure will be selling a lot of books now.
I don't have a problem with this. I'm not a fan of Marvel because of movies or cartoons. I'm a fan of Marvel for comics and heading to my LCBS every wednesday to get my new books. The comic books are Marvels smallest money maker, around 25% or so last I checked, I doubt it has gone much higher as of late with the movies coming out, in fact it probably has gone down. I seriously doubt Disney is going to mess with the book distribution since that makes the least amount of money. You can show most people on the street a picture of Spider-man and they can identify him, but ask them about Peter Parker making a deal with the devil and they will stare at you with a blank face. Comic book movies are made for people who don't read comics. Point being is that I will still get to enjoy my books. WB has done plenty of crap with DC properties, but their books remained solid. I'm expecting the same to happen with Disney.
Mickey Mouse to Marvel Universe. You think Galactus is in control here ha ha. Vengence is mine! You are all ants and I am your destroyer ha ha.
Calm down guys HOLY BREAKING NEWS: DISNEY BUYS MARVEL Iger himself said Disney's gonna let Marvel do their own thing, but market the hell out of stuff. Make people much more aware of the huge library of characters Marvel has and stuff.
Expect these new shows from Disney soon!!!!! -X-Men: Xaiver Institute Musical -The Summers Brothers -That's So NightRaven - The Suite Life On Asteroid M -The Mandarins New Clothes -The Little Namor
Thanks, for the clarity concerning Marvel Studios. I wasn't particularly certain about the legalities involved. After reading the article once more, it was the profits off of future dvd sales (as you stated) that they were factoring in for said movies. Well said. I definitely agree. Although don't think for one second that you won't see a team up with Howard the Duck and Donald Duck. You've been warned.
Dude. The Deadpool/Disney crossover has already begun. Him and Bob are Pirates right now. Only a matter of time before Jack Sparrow is called along for the ride, and now they have the power!
Coming Summer 2012 One Duck, destroyed by the death of his children, seeks revenge! *screen pans to a machine gun in each hand, zooms in on Black T-Shirt with familiar white skull* *Camera pans down to reveal yellow skinny legs, and no pants* Donald Duck as, THE PUNISHER!
Scrooge McDuck would make a decent Professor-X in a Disney/X-Men parody. edit: Crap now I have to fill in some others Launchpad- Collosus Daisy duck- Emma Frost Donald Duck- Cyclops Gyro Duck- Forge Magika the Witch- Mystique who else?
That would be because of the unwholesome delays that go so bad I dropped the book despite being a very big Gargoyles fan. See, part of the comics business is getting your product out the door on time. That's part of what I pay for. SLG's scheduling was crap. - Coeloptera
I'd rather be caught reading an Uncle Scrooge adventure by Carl Barks or Don Rosa than anything Marvel puts out personally. Those are comics that stayed good for generations with no need for endless events, crises, reboots, angst or cheesecake.
At least if a proper Howard the Duck movie gets made Disney wont be suing themselves over Howard not wearing pants.
The Punisher is a Disney character...Awesome From a marketing standpoint, this is a huge benefit to marvel. They can still product their movies but have a better financial backing for selling them. Because we all know that Disney can't make movies for crap, ubt they know how to pony up for some good people to make them. Also, I believe it was the early 90s, (during the clone saga) that Disney actually did own Marvel, or had a big partnership. Marvel was producing Disney theme comics. So this isn't that big a stretch. I'm curious how this will affect Universal Studios. Also, will Howard the Duck now have to wear pants?
