An absolutely gorgeous night launch - the entire eastern sky lit up like a sunrise.

Here's what it looked like from my house:

Good to hear that the Shuttle program is still churning away.

    And as an interesting aside...

I found an old National Geographic today that had NASA's projected shuttle launches by year around 60 up until 1995. Amazing how space programs get trimmed back...

Yeah, it's a shame. If there was one place I would be delighted to see more of my tax money going, it would be the space program. NASA budgets are being trimmed more than ever and we're well past the point where we need a MAJOR investment in a new vehicle, which is billions upon billions over a period of many years.

When I was a kid, a friend of my dad's that worked out at the Cape got a special behind-the-scenes "friends and family" tour and I got to go. We got to walk into the Vehicle Assembly Building; I stood underneath the Challenger and looked up into her main engines. A couple of years later, she was gone.

It wasn't until I got quite a bit older that I realized what a once-in-a-lifetime experience that was. There's no way a tour like that would ever happen again today.

So what do you guys think about them trying to set up a moon base starting in 2020 or so? Honestly, it seems like NASA is just trying to convince the gov't not to cut them back anymore on budget and get outside funding since you can "pay" to join the groups living there for a week.

The coolest thing I've seen in the sky here in Cincy is a flying pig. We get nothing as awesome as space ships round here.

    Thanks for the pic!

I got to watch Atlantis lift off a couple years ago. Very cool. I'm gonna become a gazillionaire just so I can do that someday.
