Well, the retail release of Wings of Honor hit stands today and the bonus pages for those who didn't pick this up from Botcon 2009 is a full blown bio of Elite Guard Dion.

    SPOILER SPACE

He ain't Ultra Magnus. He ain't Ironhide. He ain't NOBODY. He is Dion the dock worker. After he got shot by Megatron, he awoke, beaten but alive and joined the Elite Guard under Metal Hawk (Masterforce! Whooo!).

That's it in a nutshell, go pick up the issue at your local comic store and give it a look.

I consider this Dion from a parallel G1 since:
A.That's what the club does with thier fiction
B.David Wise's intent was for both Dion & Ariel to die to add emotional impact to the episode (The only reason Ariel became Elita-1 was becuase someone high up made a conncetion between the two both being girfriends to Optimus Prime/Orion Pax)

David didn't even know of Elita when he created Ariel and nixed her.

I still maintain that Dion was remade into random household appliances. Alpha Trion's dishwasher and blender? Yeah, they used to be Dion.

GAAAAHHHHH!!!! I wish all the damned US comic writers (FunPub, IDW, and otherwise) would just leave the Japanese characters the Hell out of the fiction if they can't do them any justice.

And before anyone jumps down my throat, ask yourself this:

A- Have you actually watched all of MasterForce (or even just the first half, where MetalHawk is prominent)

B- Can you HONESTLY say that MetalHawk makes sense being involved with Dion, the Elite Guard, War Dawn, or anything of the like????

But who cares right? Just swipe the model and the name, and make the fanboys giddy.

I do too! But I REALLY have a hard time seeing them doing the series any justice...at least if this MetalHawk-as-Dion's-Mentor is any indication!

It's tough shoe horning in Masterforce considering it's characters pasts and origins.

But if they are more of a re-imagining, rather than the characters themselves I see no issue(Some people clearly do :p )

No, I was imagining this as Metalhawk's role as mentor and Elite Guard sub-commander in the distant past, before being marooned on Earth. I love Masterforce, would love to see a new Metalhawk toy. The character was a caring mentor to Shuta and Ginrai, and a good leader of the earthbound Pretenders. Why not explore his past, there's a lot more potential with Metalhawk than the weak-ass Thunderclash!

I'm eager to see the expansion on the story with Dion and Metalhawk, more than seeing Kup in the past. Kup stories are a dime a dozen.

Lame as that is, I always take a Star Wars approach when it comes to canon. Basically, if it wasn't in the G1 cartoon- it doesn't count. Everything written on the side is simply on the side.

What it leaves us with is our own opinions and perceptions into characters and such, and I prefer it that way.

The beauty of the fiction with Transformers toys - you can always ignore the parts that you don't agree with, and enjoy the toys for what they are.

That is why I get "giddy" at the prospect of these great old characters being redone in updated designs. I just like seeing them redone. I'll add my own "fiction" when I put them on my display if I'm that worried.

Eh I make up my own fiction with what I consider the good parts of all the other fiction so FP doing anything different from other cannon with a charicter doesn't bother me in the least, as long as it makes a good consistant story I'm fine with that.

I agree. I still see the Botcon 09 set as "Kup's Delusion".
