I don't know if this was already asked before. We know Orion Pax became Optimus, Ariel became Elita-One and how about Dion? what ever happened to him? was he ever fixed or was he left to die?, cause Orion Pax and Dion were really good buddies and when The Aerialbots said to Alpha-Trion," there others back there like his girlfriend Ariel" and Prime never mentioned Dion.

Joke aside, official word is that Dion was not rebuilt, as Hasbro stated when asked in a Q&A:

 

Nobody knows, although some theorize that it could be Ultra Magnus.

 

Does anybody know who is the guy next to Dion?, or if he was built aswell

The purple guy looks like a generic with a chest based off of Optimus Prime's chest (but is in no way actually RELATED to him). Probably just another poor sap who got killed by the Decepticons in the early days of the war, nothing more of importance to the story.

 

Fans have theorize that he was upgraded to either Jazz,Ironhide or Ultra Magnus.

But Officially....................., Dion died.Hasbro released that info a while back in one of the many books that came out durring the run of TFA.

But that would be a retcon of sorts since it was never revealed in the 80's.

Actually, not a retcon. David Wise, the writer of the episide, has stated in various interviews and panels over the years when the question has come up that Dion and Ariel were never intended to be reborn as anyone else. Ariel as Elita-1 was apparently a last minute addition to the script.

So while nothing was originally stated in the 80s, we have the word of the episode's original writer that he was never intended to be reborn.

 

If he were to be rebuilt, why not as Huffer? They both have pretty much the same function, similar colour schemes, Prime trusts Huffer enough to let him haul his trailer every once in a while, and as for Huffer's attitude? Well, getting shot probably didn't have a positive effect on his outlook.

 

Tfwiki has been around for like what, 3 or 4 years? It's not hard to memorize some information. Also, there were other sites that you could go on.

I was also lucky to work in Marvels file room back in the 90's.Found plenty of production notes.

I would still call it a retcon since writer intent holds little weight the way I see it.

You even pointed out that they deviated from his intent.Fact are not everything the writers intend always makes it to the finished product.

 

Fair enough, myself I consider the writer's intention to carry a greater weight unless something specifically comes along later to change / discredit it.

the way I see it, with how so many things change from concept to finished product, you cant rely on writer intent for anything.
