Just checking out some footage of the Dinobots in action in "Fall of Cybertron," when I got to thinking about the parallels between that sub-group and the Wreckers. In the G1 toon, the Dinobots were always presented as the Autobots last line of defense. They were purely brute force and so wild, that they needed to be kept in a storage closet most the time, and only let out when there was absolutely no other choice. They're direct and use overwhelming firepower to turn the tide of battle, and show absolutely no fear regardless of the odds. The Wreckers fill the same type of role in the comics. Brutal, merciless, use any means necessary to complete the mission, and often leave a trail of bodies in their wake. However, the lifespan of a Wrecker is admittedly short. In the IDW continuity, especially, the Wreckers seem to have a high fatality rate. In TF rime as well, the Wreckers have been systematically hunted and wiped out, leaving only Bulkhead and Wheeljack as the sole surviving members. However, they're often able to take on missions that require more than pure brute force, whereas the Dinobots are typically set loose on the battlefield and nowhere else. And if I recall, Perceptor was once a member. They got a lot of brute force and smarts too. If these two special units of elite warriors were to engage in a battle to exterminate the other, who would come out alive? The reasons why they're fighting don't matter- just that they are. I'm thinking mainly of the Marvel Wreckers and the G1 Toon Dinobots, but feel free to bring in any other continuities.
