    dinobot Snarl: update

    Updated 4/4 with new pics

    Updated 3/20 with new pics

My biggest bash yet. I started with classics 2.0 Onslaught and a "skeleflex" Stego toy I found on clearence at TRU.

Obviously it's in progress. I'm still thinking about paint schemes and looking for a new robot head. I need to flesh out the legs (HA!) and maybe the tail. I have a dino head from the same kit but haven't hit on a good way to attach it yet.

Any and all ideas are welcome. Please, tell me what you think.

Hrmm... The head could probably attach to the parts that become his knee guards and fold in two like the original. Just an Idea. I wish you luck on this!

    DUUUUUUDE.

This is impressive. I'm really liking the look so far... makes a damn nice Snarl. I've got a similar project on the table, so I'm going to be watching you closely and taking notes... muhahahahahaaa..! ;)

I'm not sure about the skele-limbs... are you going to replace them with more traditional boxy limbs, or build onto them? Put me down as a vote for "boxy".

Like he said! I never knew how much stuff you could just take off of Onslaught. This has me thinkin about what else one could do with him.

Concur. There's gotta be some Zoids out there just itching to get involved in this project. :)

Thanks for the kind words everyone, glad your all feelin' it!

Not just genius, evil genius. And not just regular evil, Eeee-vil. Like you really mean it.

Yeah, that's the direction I'm leaning too. I want the 'bot mode to have a few more touches of the original. The problem is that those knee guards are pretty far apart and the knees are right there in the way of moving the flaps around much.

I just gotta keep playing around with it. I'll think of something.

Ah, another Eee-vil genius I see. :D  the leggs are goin to change in one of the two ways you suggested. Building them out seems like it would take a lot of materials but I'm not sure what else will work. You got any ideas? Anybody? Ready made limbs would be my preferred choice.

Yeah, turns out, once you strip him down, he turns into a brick! Great for building off of. And these "skeleflex" things are cool! I found a Triceritops on line and I got another Onslaught, If this shapes up like I'm hoping I'm gonna try a Slag too.

Plus he's just a head shorter that MP Grimlock! Perfect for fillin' out the dinobot ranks. In fact, I got a good-for-nothin' ultra class Silverbolt here too...hmmm...

Zoids huh? I never really got into them, but that may be just what I need for the ready-made-limbs I mentioned! Thanks Alty!

Very nice so far. I don't like the skeleton legs though. They look puny and weak compared to the size of the body. Unless you're going to bulk them up that would look better :)

Can't wait to see the finished product. Keep up the good work.

Unless you have some old Power Rangers stuff kicking around, Zoids are your go-to source for robot dinosaur parts. You should see if there are any big Zoids junk lots on Ebay... you might find just what you're looking for.

You mean one of the Skeleflex things? They're pretty neat. I've been playing around with the leftover parts, they're a lot like stikfas.

I looked at TONS of dinosaur toys and models after this idea first struck me, but the problem was that they all look too organic. I wanted something more blocky and robotic. I think Zoids are gonna be my savior here. I'm looking at some right now and once they're here I'll get to work again.

In the mean time I've been thinking about the hands and wondering if some articulation is in order. That's going on the list now too. That and weapons, wait till you guys see my idea for weapons...:D
