People prefer Mirage, and hate on Bay for calling their so called "Mirage", Dino.
    Yet, does it matter?
If the rumor never broke out in the first place, people wouldn't give a damn.
Of course, the comics and games somehow picked up on these rumors, and slapped Mirage on the character.
Point is, don't believe everything you hear, because it all ends up in a huge cluster flunk in the end.

It matters enough to make a thread about, apparently.

Its the same thing with Wheeljack/Que.

People hated the design when the character was named Wheeljack.

Then they bitched about it when they changed his name to Que.

    It matters to him.

Anyways as long as he is properly identified by both names I don't think it matters what we call him.

Dino sounds as stupid as Que and Cloverjolt.

Although opinions may vary, the DOTM novel adaption as well as the video game both reflect the original intent of the writers, and that is that the characters are Mirage and Wheeljack.

Regardless of what anyone else says, including what they're called in the film's, Hasbro has labeled the speed star toy for DOTM as Mirage, and the deluxe toy as Wheeljack, as evidenced by his instruction sheet, as well as SDCC and NYCC listing him as Wheeljack.

So, no matter what you prefer to call them, that's their official names for these characters. If you don't believe me, call Hasbro's marketing department and ask what they call them.

Eh, I'm honestly good with either. If they had added in his actual "cloaking" ability like the concept art depicted, I would've preferred Mirage. But as it stands in the movie, as a new character, "Dino" is fine. I won't lose any sleep over it.

    :lol  The fandom...

Someone on the boards posted this a while back, and I thought it summed up the situation quite nicely.

It shows that Bay cares more about a car company than fans so I say people have a right to be pissed.

Don't know the exact terms of his legal agreement with Ferrari, but sounds like he really might have not had a choice in the matter.

I don't really think it's fair to say that he doesn't care about the fans (simply on this Dino-topic). Ferrari gave him permission to use their car and probably, thus, funding a hefty chunk of change. Bay obliged to their request to change the name for the movie. The character is still in the movie. He's still BA. It's still Mirage in the novels, tie-in-media, toys, etc.. And fans are still upset. Fans are upset if his name if Mirage. Fans are upset it his name is Dino. Lose/lose.

And after all, if he was called "Mirage" in the movie (you know, for that whole TWO times he was named on screen), all the haters would just be gushing over the movie, right? ;)

And this. We're not privy to everything that goes on behind legal decisions like this.

What would have been nice, is if he had released a dubbed version of the film, where they are called Wheeljack and Mirage. I think that would have been great.

I just go by whatever the toys call him.

Que is being named Wheeljack, and so he is Wheeljack to me.

TF1 Devastator was named Brawl on all the toys, so he is Brawl.

However, I'm not really able to apply this yet to Dino/Mirage because we don't even know if we are getting a toy.

Pretty sure it was confirmed a couple months ago that a Dino-Mirage was in the works by someone who visited Hasbro. Check the news.

I'm a bit biased since Mirage is one my favorite Autobot's from G1. So when I found out he was going to be in the third film I was overwhelmingly happy until Nelson revealed he would be named Dino, then all my dreams were shattered.
