Ooh, read the part about Bay's takeover preceeding the troubles.

Can't wait to see the posts about that :lol

Far as the impact on TF2, I really wonder if there'll be any. There's a demand, a talent pool, and the technology. If it's not DD, it'll be someone else, probably employing many of the same people and using much of the same techniques.

There a lot of stories, in the vfx industry, about Bay and his working relationships with DD's workers.

I know he demands a lot from his employers and can act like an asshole while doing it, but what other stories are there?

I know one story in particular:

As they were working on Bay's "The Island" (I think), Bay wanted to do a last minute change in the vfx. 2 weeks before printing and distribution. In dailies, Bay said he wanted the changes done, no matter what. When one of the vfx guys told him that what he wants is impossible to do in less then 2 weeks, Bay had a shit-fit, screaming that he is Michael Bay and they better do whatever he tells them to do. At this point Bay threw a stapler towards the worker that said that they can't do it. Bay left the room angry and the worker resigned the same day.

Now I heard that from a friend of mine that was present in the room that day, but this is a story that he told me and I don't know if its true or not. But for some reason I believe him.

Maybe they'll have their troubles worked out, or another FX studio found by the time the writers' strike is over.

Isn't the movie in limbo because of the strike?

As much as I enjoyed the Transformers movie, I really do not like Bay's attitude towards other people. He really does come off as a asshole.

    Anyway..............................

It will be interesting to see if this has a impact on Transformers 2.

This reminds me of how Lion's Gate has to lay off most of their employees AFTER Farenheit 9/11 turned a decent profit. Whenever a company reports losses after a big profitable film I suspect soemone wants more money in their pockets and lets people go to keep it themselves.

Or maybe I'm just suspicious because Bay STILL called it a "stupid toy movie" after it made 700 million?

One profitable film is not going to make up for the twenty other failures.

I don't recall when Bay called it a stupid toy movie after the fact. I recall him talking about his initial reactions when offered the project and how he believed the non-fan audience would take it if he didn't treat the movie differently to the cartoons.

Because, as noted by several critics, making a movie out of a toyline is kind of stupid if you look at it from the outside.

I also enjoyed the movie enormously, it was well done. But Bay can be a bit of a ass if I'd say so myself.

I don't know the man (or your friend), so until someone catches Michael Bay in the act of being an complete inconsiderate ass to his co-workers (and advertises on the News or Gossip Columns), I won't believe a word of it.

Besides, most Directors aren't the kindest people in the world anyway. I doubt Steven Speilberg is a wonderful man despite about half of the entertaining movies he produces for the public (or himself) anyways. It comes with the job of being a director. Either that, or your just an allround terrible person. It happens.

On another note, I hope "Digital Domain" get their problems together and save themselves from bankruptcy or whatever.

I don't know him either. But honestly I can tell you that people, that work in the vfx industry, get chills down their spines, once his name is being tossed around.

Doesn't necessarily mean anything. Perhaps the writing was on the wall, and he knew that there were financial problems before buying it. For all we know, that's probably why he bought it... or how he was able to.

    Time will tell.

Lucasfilm is George Lucas's film studio. Lucasarts is their video game development studio and publisher.

Industrial Light and Magic is their visual effects studio and did most of the effects for Transformers.

Eh. It doesn't matter much. DD only did minor shots for the film and I'm sure if push comes to shove ILM can pick up the slack of find another studio to animate Megatron starring sexually at Sam.
