I noticed this site doesn't have a thread competing the two against each other yet so I decided to make one.

WARNING: Disscussions like this tend to make people turn into rabid animals to defend their favorites.

Alright so I watched both when I was younger and I've heard far too many "Digimon's a Pokemon ripoff" to not discuss it. Besides for the fact that Digimon came out before Pokemon and technically can't really be a copy. What do you guys think about all of this. Personally I like Digimon a lot more than Pokemon so I'm biased but I did enjoy their games more than digimon ones.

I miss the days when Digimon was primarily a virtual pet thingy. Had lots of fun with mine. Pokemon provides hours upon hours of entertainment, though. More bang for my buck.

    Both.

I have many fond memories of waking up at 6am in the morning, sitting through either Aerobics Oz Style or the early morning news, waiting patiently for Cheese TV to start; so I could watch the latest episode of Digimon and Pokemon.

    Ah, those were the days.

    Digimon.

They can talk and not just say their name over and over.

    One is all you need.

They can digivolve then return to their weaker states after. No pokeballs.

The whole 'returning to their weaker states after' thing was one of the aspects of Digimon that really put me off, especially after I viewed the evolution as being permanent when I played with the virtual pets.

It's 50/50 for me. Loved both shows as a kid, but game-wise Pokemon takes the cake. Though there was one Digimon game I had for PS1 that I remember having tons of fun with. I should try hunting it down for nostalgia's sake.

Yeah. I prefer they walk around instead of being trapped until needed for battle lol.

I'm not 100% sure but you might be thinking of Digimon World 1. If it was raising sort of like monster rancher than that's the one. If it was a straight rpg then it was one of the other two.

Although it would've been interesting seeing them drag oversized, fully evolved digimon like Zudomon all over the digital world, I like the fact that they can return to their previous states. That way you get to see all of their forms and they don't just dissapear forever once evolved. All of the games keep them evolved though.

I greatly preferred Pokemon, mostly for the original Gameboy game, but also because of the aesthetic. Whoever did the original art and illustration did a wonderful job creating a consistent, refined series of expressive creatures.

I liked the Digimon show better than the Pokemon one, but I've found the Pokemon games are a lot more accessible.

Design-wise I like them both, though Digimon does more "repaint characters", angels/demons, alternate forms, and humans in costume, none of which I'm terribly fond of.

For a time I thought Digimon was a Pokemon ripoff too but as a kid I began to see how its overall direction started to differ and become its own thing.

I was told that if I liked Pokemon, I would love Digimon. This turned out to be false.

Haha, nice coincidence that you put this up when I'm starting to watch the Digimon series.

Some Digimon have some pretty sick designs and the anime is very enjoyable (in contrast to-meet new Pokemon, blow up Team Rocket, rinse and repeat); but overall I enjoyed the Pokemon games and mythos more.

Wow, now I've seen everything! You mean guys who actually watch, love and adore Pokemon have the audacity to constantly crap on US G1? This is priceless!!

Because Pokemon is an extremely fun series of games and Digimon is a pretty good anime while the G1 cartoon is just... poo.
