Do you mean in terms of the order they were produced in? Aired in? Listed in on the DVDs? You'll have to be more specific.

idk in my matrix of leadership boxset the first season went in order of its production. the second season went in order of its broadcast order but replacing the episodes to fit the story line better. season 3 was put in boradcast order but replacing them around to fit the story line and i lookat all these websites and i see all these different list of g1 episodes in different order which order is actually correct.

In comparing production order and airdate, there isn't one way that's "correct" compared to the other.

Both are correct, provided the list corresponds to the order it's says its in. If I said to you "list for me every American President" and you did it by alphabetical order or by the date they took office, which would be correct?

Use the TFwiki and see if the lists match up.

I doubt anyone really knows the original airing order and dates. Wasn't MTMTE said to have originally aired in the spring?

I had a topic like this about "The Rebirth" airdates (actually got an answer). Ultimately, there are 2 episode lists: production order (this is definitive) and air order, which widely varies. The issue is people back then didn't take notes about the air order and many lists online were just guesses presented as fact. This is a very common problem with cartoons pre-internet. It's also incredibly frustrating. Shows going back to the 1950s have pristine episode guides that have been verified through tv guides and newspapers, where the only errors are transcription errors on websites. Transformers is subject to major confusion over its airdates (but not as screwed up as Thundercats' episode guide).

    What is known:
    - Season 1 aired once a week Fall 84- Spring 85. The 3-part pilot may or may not have aired in spring. I'm inclined against that because TF was a slow seller until the cartoon premiered in Sept 1984, which is when sales suddenly soared. Beast Wars' 2-part pilot aired as a total surprise in April 1996, no advertising, only some tv guides listed it, at widely varying times, but quite a few people caught it and left some fossilized discussions on the internet over spring/summer 1996 anticipating the new series. One would think toy sales would show a sign of an airing in Spring 84.
    - Season 2 aired 5 days a week Fall 85- Spring 86. There's some suspicion "Kremzeek" might've been skipped and aired later on.
    - Season 3 aired 2 days a week Fall 86- Spring 87. Mondays & Tuesdays. Season 1+2 reruns aired W-F (except when FFOD was airing). It's been reported some of the episodes had their dates swapped (Episode A & B slotted for the same week, but A aired in some markets on Mon, some on Tue and B aired in some markets on Tue, some markets on Mon). There are 2 versions of "Dark Awakening". The 2nd had an altered ending and aired right before "The Return of Optimus Prime".
    - Season 4 aired 11/9/87- 11/11/87. A historic weather event was hitting the East Coast during Part 3.

About the only solid pre-internet cartoons with good episode guides are the primetimes (Flintstones, Jetsons Season 1, Top Cat), Batman: TAS, X-Men, Spider-Man, Beast Wars (that last one isn't pre-internet). Oh, and some live-action kid shows like Power Rangers.

For me, the most "correct" order is the order in which I should watch the episodes. And for that, I always move "Aerial Assault" down the list so it comes after "Starscream's Brigade" and "The Revenge of Bruticus." That way the Combaticons don't appear before they're created. And "The Gambler" always follows "Child's Play." "Ghost in the Machine" always follows "Starscream's Ghost." And I like putting "Dark Awakening" right before "The Return of Optimus Prime."
