i believe the japan one comes with the golden disc, but not sure if american one comes with it. how ever, it's about $50 dollars cheaper for the american one on most sites, so i would suggest you get that, especially since you can buy it direct from TRU i'm sure. for not much more then $40.

so unless that golden disc means anything to you...

    buy the american one.

The US versions have much looser joints and the gorilla face pops off on US primal just by looking at it but the japanese version never seems to pop off at all. I have the japanese version, my kids got the US version.

US version feels dodgey in comparison......

I actually bought the japanese set because at one point in time it appeared that all Hasbro was creating was the lame, wierd colored version of the Boss Monkey and Megs. Kinda pissed me off when Hasbro went out and released the "normal" versions but I wound up buying a US set just to have the loose toys and used the Japanese version as a great display piece (box design and artwork was quite nice)

The TRU Megs is apparently missing a joint in his waist, so that his torso spins very freely. It's not much of a problem though when he's pegged together properly
