Is there a visual difference between the red box and the rereleased prowl.? I've got one that has "acura" and "rsx" on the back and another that doesn't. Which is which?

The bubble packed has the "Acura" and "RSX." The red box is without.

Any other differences between other Alts that were originally box and then later rereleased?

Me too (red box). Great...to buy a variant or not buy a variant, that is the question...I'm thinking "not".

Exact same toy - different packaging.

The bubble packaging came after the red box packaging, and a couple of characters released on the cusp of that change came in both. My guess is that Hasbro decided to better showcase the cars for collectors by using bubble domes, as well as set them apart from a lot of the normal scale model cars that often come in very similar red boxes as the first sets of Alternators did. That's actually how I found Hound & Sideswipe - tucked in with the model cars @ Zellers. At least the dome tops help them stand out more, and seem to make the fact that they're Transformers more clear.

My bubble box prowl has the "acura" and "rsx-s" on the back, I also heard that the red box prowl never had the brakelight (crookedly painted on mine incidentally) in the centre of the boot (trunk) but I could be wrong.

I have both, the original release is missing the red tail light, and the acura and RSX logos. Also the QC ont he bubble prowls was much worse then the red box. I had to dig through many with paint issues and scratches to get a good one to keep misb.

Crap...as a former Hot Wheels addict, this means I have to track down that red-box Prowl. (Hot Wheels are infamous for producing, sometimes several, variations on the same car in any given year, and sometimes the only difference is a little bitty teeny decal change).

Resist, my friend, resist! If you really want all the variants, though, you need to talk to my buddy "Fred", he's got the super-duper hyper-deluxe super-secret Prowl variant. What makes it special? The pricetag. ; )
